A trough for cooling and delivering molten metal to a casting station. The trough comprises a refractory portion for holding the molten metal and heat transfer means associated to external walls of the refractory portion for extracting heat from the molten metal. The heat transfer means may comprise a fluidized bed compartment for holding and fluidizing a fluidization material. Also, the heat transfer means may comprise a cooling jacket, an inner wall of the cooling jacket and the external walls of the refractory portion defining the fluidized bed compartment.

An apparatus for molding a metal material. The apparatus includes a vessel with portions defining a passageway through the vessel. An inlet is located toward one end and a member or agitation means is located within the passageway. A plurality of heaters are located a length of the vessel. The first of the heaters is located immediately downstream of the inlet and is a low frequency induction coil heater whereby the temperature gradient through the vessel's sidewall is minimized.

1,018,157. Thermal insulation for pipes. DOW CHEMICAL CO. Oct. 27, 1964 [Nov. 15, 1963], No. 43723/64. Heading F2P. Thermal insulation members for pipe-lines include elongated, thin-walled, metal segments 34, 36 of arcuate transverse cross-section exceeding 180 degrees but not 360 degrees, in extent, each member having axially extending, inwardly flanged, edges 40, 44 (Fig. 3, not shown) an inwardly extending spacer 60 maintaining a predetermined space between the concave surface and any pipe to which the member is attached and thermally insulating material 54, 56 adjacent the concave surface. The spacer 46 is assembled between outward flanges 38 and 42. The sections 34, 36 are made of stainless steel and the insulating materials which are sheets of fibrous aluminium oxide and silica are held in place by the flanges or attached in other known manner. A number of the insulating members are snapped on to a pipe side by side along its length and controlled gas heating flames are applied along the open segments. Fig. I (not shown) illustrates a pipe heated in the manner described situated between a melting pot for metal and a casting machine.

A 3D printer includes an ejector configured to receive a build material. The 3D printer also includes a valve configured to control flow of the build material into or through the ejector. The valve includes a cooler configured to cool the build material to below a melting point of the build material to form a solid plug to prevent the build material from flowing therethrough. The valve also includes a heater configured to re-heat the build material to above the melting point to allow the build material to flow therethrough. The 3D printer also includes a nozzle positioned downstream from the valve. The build material is ejected through the nozzle. The 3D printer also includes a substrate positioned below the nozzle. The build material lands on the substrate and cools and solidifies thereon to form a 3D object.

A casting system for producing an object with multiple layers having mold regions and object regions includes a mold construction unit, at least one deposition system, and a controller. The mold construction unit constructs the mold regions of the currently-produced layer. The deposition system includes a movable deposition unit, a first induction heating unit, and an induction heating power supply unit. The movable deposition unit deposits molten metal in a working area along a deposition path and with a deposition velocity. The first induction heating unit heats the working area from a working distance above a height of a current mold region. The power supply unit provides current to generate therefrom a magnetic field extending to the working area. The controller controls the system such that the magnetic field heats a desired zone in the working area to a target temperature.

A vessel used for containing molten metal, e.g. a trough section for conveying molten metal from one location to another. In some embodiments, the vessel employs refractory liner units of different thermal conductivity to maximize heat penetration into the molten metal from heaters in the gap, but to minimize heat loss at the inlet and outlet of the vessel where the end units contact the housing.
摘要:
A vessel used for containing molten metal, e.g. a trough section for conveying molten metal from one location to another. The vessel has a refractory liner made of at least two refractory liner units positioned end to end, with a joint between the units, the units each having an exterior surface and a metal-contacting interior surface. A housing at least partially surrounds the exterior surfaces of the refractory liner units with a gap present between the exterior surfaces and the housing. Molten metal confinement elements, impenetrable by molten metal, are positioned on opposite sides of the joint within the gap, at least below a horizontal level corresponding to a predetermined maximum working height of molten metal held within the vessel in use, to partition the gap into a molten metal confinement region between the elements and at least one other region that may be used to hold equipment such as electrical heaters that may be damaged by contact with molten metal. Another embodiment employs refractory liner units of different thermal conductivity to maximize heat penetration into the molten metal from heaters in the gap, but to minimize heat loss at the inlet and outlet of the vessel where the end units contact the housing.

A feed block unit for a hot-runner feed system of a pressure die-casting machine includes a block body in which is incorporated at least one melt-conveying channel running out of the block body by way of a sprue orifice close to the gate, and a heating system, integrated into the block body, for the at least one melt-conveying channel. The feed block unit is designed as a structural unit which is insertable independently into a respective casting mold, and/or the heating system integrated therein includes at least a first heating device for supply channel heating and a second heating device, which can be controlled independently of the first heating device, for sprue channel heating. With this modular hot-runner feed system, individual temperature profiles can be predetermined and set for the respective feed block unit.
