    摘要: An electromagnetic device for laterally containing a liquid metal, having a first electrical conductivity, at one open side end of a passage defined between two counter-rotating casting rolls, at least the surfaces of which are made of a ferromagnetic material, said device comprising



    a magnetic yoke made of a further ferromagnetic material having a second electrical conductivity either lower than or equal to said first electrical conductivity of the liquid metal and ending with two mutually proximal wedge-shaped ends, said wedge-shaped ends having respective inner surfaces, facing each other and defining a gap, and respective outer surfaces, arranged one on one side and the other on the other side with respect to a plane lying in said gap and shaped so as to be able to insert both said wedge-shaped ends at least partially between the two casting rolls;
    at least one coil wound on at least one stretch of the magnetic yoke and adapted to be supplied by electric current;
    at least one plate, made of a material having a third electrical conductivity either greater than or equal to said first electrical conductivity, said at least one plate being inserted in said gap so as to shield said inner surfaces with respect to each other.

    摘要: Embodiments of the invention relate to a method and apparatus for continuously casting a metal slab. The method involves continuously introducing molten metal into an inlet of a casting cavity defined between advancing casting surfaces, cooling the metal in the cavity to form a metal slab, and discharging the slab from the cavity through an outlet. The casting surfaces have an ability to remove heat from the metal but this ability is reduced, thus reducing heat flux, for at least one of the casting surfaces in a region of the cavity spaced from both the inlet and the outlet and extending transversely to the casting direction. This reduced ability to remove heat is relative to such ability of the casting surface in immediately adjacent upstream and downstream regions of the cavity. The apparatus may be a twin belt caster or other form of continuous caster modified to perform the method.

    摘要: An apparatus for cooling a continuous casting machine during the preliminary stages of casting molten metal, in which coolant is sprayed at a relatively low velocity onto the external surfaces of the flexible band and casting wheel which form the mold into which the molten metal is poured. The coolant is applied at the relatively low velocity prior to and during the initial pouring of the molten metal, and when the operator of the casting machine has established a proper constant level of molten metal in the mold and the hazard of splashing and explosion of the molten metal has been reduced, the coolant is applied at increased velocities and volumes and the rate of casting the molten metal is increased.

A portion of one of the rotational molding members that starts to come into contact with molten metal can be set to a temperature of [(melting point or liquidus temperature of the metal)×0.35] or more, and the other of the rotational molding members can be cooled.
