摘要: A process for manufacturing fiber optic overhead ground wire cable may include: providing an optical core; providing a reinforcing structure consisting of at least one layer of wires onto the optical core, wherein at least part of the wires are clad with first metallic material; extruding an outer layer onto the reinforcing structure, wherein the outer layer is made of second metallic material having a softening point substantially similar to a softening point of the first metallic material; and cooling the outer layer immediately after extruding the outer layer. A fiber optic overhead ground wire cable may include: an optical core comprising a plurality of optical fibers housed in an inner tube; and a reinforcing structure consisting of at least one layer of wires stranded onto the optical core. The cable may be substantially devoid of interstices between the at least one layer of wires and the inner tube.

摘要: An elongated product is formed such that first a core is formed, the outer surface of the core being made of plastic. Thereafter, a tubular metal layer is extruded such that the layer is seamless. When the metal layer is extruded, a clearance (16) is allowed between the metal layer and the core. After the metal layer has cooled, the outer surface of the core is arranged against the inner surface of the metal layer. An adhesive action is arranged between the core and the metal layer and a permanent compressive force is arranged, which compressive force compresses the core and the metal layer together.

摘要: A method and means for producing disks of tightly packed on-end aligned fibers wherein side-by-side filament tows are surrounded and pulled by a Chinese-finger type gripper sleeve which tightens about the tows and compacts the filaments as it is pulled. The gripper sleeve and filament assembly is further compacted by being pulled through a draw-down die and into a tube surrounded by a backup casing. The highly compacted mass of filaments with the surrounding portion of the sleeve within the tube are cut free from the external portion of the portion of the puller sleeve and the loaded tube is removed from the casing. A plurality of disks of predetermined thickness containing the desired highly compacted on-end aligned fibers are then formed by cross-sectionally cutting the filament loaded tube segment by segment.

摘要: Apparatus for manufacturing a composite metal wire including a core metal wire having extruded therearound a coating metal layer which is different in material from the core metal wire. The coating metal is fed into a narrow passageway which is defined between a circumferential groove formed on the outer edge of a rotary wheel and a close fitting surface of a fixed shoe block, the cross-sectional area therebetween decreasing for half the distance between entry and discharge and thereafter increasing until discharge. The coating material is carried towards an outlet end of the passageway by frictional drag with the surface of the passageway in accordance with the rotation of the wheel. A core metal wire harder in material than the coating metal is passed through a covering chamber of a larger cross sectional area which is provided with a die and a nipple at the front and rear portions respectively, whereby the core metal drive is covered with the coating metal in the covering chamber so that a predetermined construction of the composite metal wire is extruded through the die.

摘要: At least one reinforcing member is introduced into a pressure chamber and, from thence, into an extrusion zone through an entry port communicating between the two. Simultaneously, heated extrudent is delivered, from an extruder, to points around the reinforcing member in the extrusion zone where it encompasses the reinforcing member. Continued pressure from the extruder forces extrudent and the encompassed reinforcing member through a die in the front or downstream end of the extrusion zone. Upon emerging from the die the extrudent cools and sets around the encompassed reinforcing member and a reinforced extruded article is the result. The pressure chamber is utilized to prevent extrudent from escaping from the extrusion zone through the entry port provided for the introduction of the reinforcing member. This invention is useful in that it provides a method for incorporating reinforcing members into extruded articles.
