    Abstract: An extrusion handling apparatus which grips the end of extruded products and stretches them as they are extruded from a die of an extrusion machine. The apparatus includes a clamping means for gripping the extruded products, the clamping means being mounted on rails to move linearly away from the extrusion die. Supports for the extruded products are mounted independently of the clamping means and synchronized to move with the clamping means beneath the extruded products and are vertically adjustable with respect to the clamping means to adjust the supports for different size extrusions. The clamping means have opposite jaws which close on the center line of the extruded products. The jaws are moved by a pneumatic, or other, fluid pressure system which is carried by a cart which supports the clamping means. The pneumatic pressure system is recharged by docking with a pressure source at one end of the travel of the clamping jaw cart. A shear press is mounted on a track for movement independent of the clamping means and has power means operably connected thereto for movement of the shear press away from the clamping means after cutting of the extrusion to permit gripping of the cut end of the extrusion without interference from the shear press.

    Abstract: A method and tool for calibrating an extruded tube for use in a manufacturing operation. According to the method, the tube is stretched while in a clamping tool by approximately 3%. The tool encloses the tube while a stretching mechanism is clamped to opposite longitudinal ends of the tube and applies a stretching force to opposite ends of the tube. The tool includes a clamping mechanism that clamps the tube into a cavity and a stretching mechanism with clamps that are attached to opposite longitudinal ends of the tube to calibrate the tube by longitudinally stretching the tube.

    Abstract: A system for the production of extruded aluminum or aluminum alloy profiles starting with billets has an extrusion press having a horizontally directed outlet and to which is fed preheated billets press such that the billets exit the outlet of press as a horizontally extending profile that is fed horizontal to a horizontal bench where, while still horizontal, the provides are cooled, straightened, and cut into profile sections. A conditioning chamber for profile ageing heat treatment downstream of the bench as well as a device for coating the profile sections. A device upstream of the conditioning chamber picks the profile sections up off the bench and shifts them from the horizontal orientation to a vertical orientation. An overhead conveyor extends from the picking-up device through the conditioning chamber and coating device for conveying the profile sections therethrough while in the vertical orientation.
