A system and method for removing contaminants from a surface. The system is designed to use particles having means thereon which are capable of selectively binding to a contaminant or contaminants of interest. The particles are applied to the surface whereupon the contaminants bind to the particle. When the particle is removed, the desired contaminants are also removed. Preferably, the present invention utilizes magnetic particles having iron therein. The particles may then be readily removed using magnets. The means for binding the contaminant to the particle preferably comprise a ligand or a charge specifically designed to remove the contaminant of interest. The particles may be included in a carrier to facilitate their application to the surface. The invention is especially useful for the removal of contaminants from skin.

The invention relates to a cosmetic and dermatological preparation for treating sensitive tissue, wounds and hair. The preparation contains (a1) magnetically hard particles such as barium or strontium hexaferrite single crystals, samariumcobalt particles (SmCo) and neodymium-iron-boron particles (Nd.sub.2 Fe.sub.14 B), each with a particle size in the range of 80 to 550 nm, and with a coercive field strength of the particles in the range of 1,000 to 20,000 Oerstedt; or (a2) particles according to (a1), encapsulated in aqueous liposomes or asymmetrical lamellar aggregates, where the aggregates consist of fluorocarbons and natural phospholipids with a phosphatidylcholine content of 30 to 99 wt %; and separately in addition to (a1) or (a2) or mixtures thereof, it also contains asymmetrical lamellar aggregates without encapsulated particles which are loaded with oxygen to the saturation limit. The invention relates to a preparation for improving the blood supply. The problem with prior art preparations or processes resides in the fact that soft magnetic components had to be introduced into the body in capsule form or a magnetic field had to be applied after the application of demagnetized particles to the skin. The purpose of the invention is to provide a novel preparation for improving the blood supply in which special hard magnetic particles are used. According to the invention, the preparation for improving the blood supply consists of a pharmaceutically or cosmetically acceptable medium and possibly further additives containing finely distributed hard magnetic single-grade particles with a high coercitive field intensity and grain sizes in the range of 600 to 1200 nm. Dispersions of this preparation exhibit no aggregation of the hard magnetic particles. The preferred use is in the cosmetic and dermatological field.
