Abstract:
A slingbar includes a sling attachment member. The sling attachment member includes a frame including a base having a top end and a bottom end, and a hook extending from the bottom end to a hook terminus. The hook terminus and the top end of the base define an opening. The hook, base, and opening bound an interior of the attachment member. A closure element includes an outboard gate hinged to the hook terminus and an inboard gate hinged to the base. The gates have a default state in which each gate extends laterally only part way across the opening.
Abstract:
Example traction devices, systems and methods for use thereof are provided. An example traction device may include (a) a frame comprising a top support having first and second ends, where the first end of the top support is coupled to a first vertical support and the second end of the top support is coupled to a second vertical support and (b) a balance bar moveably coupled to the top support via a wire, where opposing ends of the balance bar are each coupled to an attachment ring or define a receptacle.
Abstract:
A gantry system supports a human user in a harness attached to a carriage on a track. The carriage may comprise a body defining a U-shaped or C-shaped opening sized to receive a cylindrical track, and a pair of wheels attached to the body that roll along a top portion of the track with sufficiently minimal drag to permit the user to move the carriage without assistance. Single track embodiments may have a straight or curved trajectory and may have intersecting track portions with junctions that move between the intersecting track portions. In other embodiments, the carriage traverses a perpendicular track spanning a pair of parallel tracks. The perpendicular track may traverse the parallel tracks with or without motorized assistance. A counterweight system may provide partial weight support for the user. In one embodiment, the tracks are supported by a collapsible free-standing structure.
Abstract:
A coupling that includes a housing with a cutout; a cylindric shaft extending transversely to the cutout through aligned openings; a hook having a width which is less than the width of the cutout and which has a receiving opening with a diameter corresponding to the shaft diameter that is received in the opening. An insertion opening is provided that has a width which is less than the shaft diameter and which is oriented at an angle relative to a direction of pull by loading the hook. A part of the shaft that is disposed in the cutout is provided with opposing flats with a mutual spacing which is less than the width of the insertion opening. The shaft is arranged for longitudinal manual displacement against the action of a spring, from a first position where the flats are located outside the cutout to a second position where the flats are in the cutout.
Abstract:
A patient lift for transporting patients having a hoist assembly, a lift assembly and an integrated flexible load-bearing supporting member. The flexible load-bearing supporting member is retractable into the hoist assembly and has integrated load-bearing, data communications, and power components to transmit data and/or power to/from the hoist assembly and lift assembly.
Abstract:
A patient lift and extraction apparatus includes adjustable, generally parallel legs connected by a cross member having a support member with a projecting boom. The support member may be adjustably located between the legs. A patient lift strap in the boom supports a patient in combination with a patient sling.
Abstract:
A patient transport apparatus includes a sling for movement of a person from or into a vehicle seat supported by a dual legged horizontal frame mounted on rollers or wheels with a generally vertical, telescoping post having a cantilever arm extending therefrom. A cable or strap supported by the cantilever arm is attached to the adjustable body sling which designed to securely hold a patient during transport.
Abstract:
A safety hook for mounting on the extremity of a spreader bar of a patient lift is secured to a base member that is connected to or integral with the spreader bar. A load-bearing hook member is pivotally suspended from the base member to allow the hook member to move in the plane of the hook member between an open position and a closed position in which the free end of the hook member engages the base member at an engagement point. The hook member is shaped such that it is urged to the closed position when a downward load is applied to it, and that it is urged to the open position when an upward load is applied to it. Under normal circumstances the safety hook closes automatically because of the weight of the load.
Abstract:
A method for transferring a patient from a first surface to a second surface includes providing a winch having a drive system and two reels operatively coupled to the drive system. Two straps are attached to each of the reels. Two wedge cushions are provided for pushing the patient in the direction of the winch from the first surface to the second surface. The wedge cushions have a cover, an insert and an attachment mechanism for attaching them to the straps. The wedge cushions are thinner at the attachment mechanism end. The first of the two straps is passed beneath the patient and is attached to a first wedge cushion. The second of the two straps is passed beneath the patient and is attached to another wedge cushion. The reels are rotated, thereby pulling the two straps until each of the wedge cushions wedge firmly beneath the patient. Nest, the reels are rotated together, thereby pulling the two straps until the patient is transferred from the first surface to the second surface.
