摘要: A structure is provided for promoting growth of aquatic species for aquaculture operations and other purposes. The aquatic structure may have a buoyant member, a flexible sheet, and flexible strips (such as fronds, ribbons or filaments). The flexible materials are suspended from the buoyant member. The flexible materials may have high surface area structures for promoting growth of autotrophic (including algae) and heterotrophic organisms (such as bacteria) in photic and heterotrophic sections, respectively. The autotrophs and the bacteria are food, and the dispersed flexible strips provide an attractive habitat for the larger feeding organisms such as fish, crustaceans and mollusks. Ballast devices may be used, if desired, to secure the aquatic structure to the benthos. The ballast devices may be formed of flexible material. The flexible ballast devices may be filled with granular material after the apparatus is transported to the job site. The aquatic structure is easy to handle and deploy in aquatic environments. In alternative embodiments of the invention, additional float devices and/or tethered anchors may be provided for maintaining the apparatus in the desired location.

摘要: A coral ring mount device and method for the propagative culture of sessile benthic marine organisms (for example, stony corals) employing either a ring, washer or threaded nut or similar as a propagule mount upon which the coral is set in order to attach, grow and overgrow within a coral nursery system. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, once the coral is grown onto the ring mount and to its requisite size and condition, the ring mount becomes the washer through which passes a screw to secure the ring and coral to the seafloor.

摘要: Systems and methods for creating habitats for benthic macro-invertebrate organisms and fish are provided. The system contains a platform and woody material attached thereto. The platform also contains openings for trapping useful organic materials, such as leaf pack and wood, and tassels that provide additional habitats or attached the woody material. The system may be installed in a river, stream, creek, or other fresh water source. The platform may be substantially flat, or may be bent to form a hollow-tube-shaped structure, with openings at both ends of the structure. The systems provide habitat, places to hold on during high flows, places to trap useable organics such as leaf pack and wood and nesting areas to support macrobenthic organisms. The system can be placed into a stream channel to restore the stream or maintain healthy conditions in a stream.

摘要: Floating islands are provided which have a permeable and buoyant matrix base with a top surface and pores therein and one or more solar panels. The solar panels are fixedly mounted to the matrix such that they are located at or above a waterline of the floating island. A heat sink is attached to at least one of the solar panels. The heat sink is configured to transfer heat from the solar panels to water disposed within the pores of the matrix base such that the solar panels are cooled and the water in the matrix base is warmed. Floating islands may also have a rotation system configured to rotate the matrix base such that the solar panels are facing the sun. The rotation system includes a pivot post, a cable windlass, a first cable coupled to the cable windlass, and a second cable coupled to the cable windlass.

摘要: A floating device for use on a water surface is disclosed. The floating device comprises: a generally spherical hollow body defined by an equator line, a top pole and a bottom pole. The floating device further comprises a non-flat floating member, being inside the hollow body and having an apex constituted to support the top pole when the floating device is placed on the water surface. The body of the floating device is formed with at least one opening at each of the top and the bottom poles, and with an arrangement of openings circumferentially distributed above and below the equator line.
