摘要： A guide sprocket assembly for use in combination with a non-driven, rotating tail shaft. The guide sprocket assembly includes a lock plate assembly securely fixed to the tail shaft for rotation along with the tail shaft. The lock plate assembly includes an annular sprocket groove that receives an annular guide sprocket having a plurality of projecting teeth spaced along its outer circumference. The guide sprocket is retained within the annular sprocket groove by a sprocket retainer. The combination of the guide sprocket and sprocket retainer are freely rotatable within the annular sprocket groove relative to the lock plate assembly. The teeth of the guide sprocket engage a drive chain, and the guide sprocket can rotate either in the direction of rotation of the tail shaft or in an opposite direction to properly align the individual links of the drive chain with the teeth formed on the guide sprocket.

As drilling commences, the operator may view the material underlying the rig and make a visual determination that the coal seam has been reached, by identifying that the material has the characteristic black color of the coal. When the coal seam is reached, the drilling operation is then altered accordingly to prevent overdrilling.

摘要： A calcining system is operated in a substoichiometric mode for reducing nitrogen oxide generation and removing sulfur from materials to be processed by creating an oxygen deficient atmosphere. The calcining system includes a rotary kiln rotating on a slightly inclined horizontal axis. The rotary kiln has a feed end introducing material to be processed and a discharge end. A preheating/precalcining device is positioned adjacent the feed end such that the material passes through the device prior to entering the rotary kiln. A stationary hood surrounds the discharge end. A burner is supported by the stationary hood. The burner introduces combustible fuel and combustion air into the rotary kiln through the discharge end and operates in a substoichiometric mode. At least one air nozzle is located along the length of the rotary kiln. The air nozzle injects combustion air into the rotary kiln. The combustion air introduced by the air nozzle completely combusts the combustible fuel introduced by the burner before the combustible fuel exits the feed end.

摘要： In an arc furnace or melter furnace employing concentric graphite inner and outer electrodes, the accumulations of tolerances, distortion and mechanical forces can cause a loss of concentricity leading to reduced performance and eventually to electrode degradation. To avoid that condition, a plurality of insulating spherical or cylindrical spacers are disposed in the annular gap between the inner and outer electrodes. The spacers are held in position by arcuate recesses in the outer surface of the inner electrode or in the inner surface of the outer electrode. The electrodes may be constructed in segments that are assembled by threading one segment into another segment.

摘要： This invention relates to a mechanism for adjusting the position of the roller bearings that support large rotating apparatus such as a rotary kiln. The mechanism utilizes a box like base mounted on the kiln foundation. The base has a pair of compartments. In the rear compartment a fluid pressure device actuates a piston to drive a threaded bolt against the base of the roller bearing to adjust its position. A stop nut on the threaded bolt is moved to engage a wall of the base to prevent movement of the bolt away from the bearing and thereby maintain the bearing in its adjusted position.

摘要： An apparatus for directly reducing pellets of material without melting the material includes the transporting of the pellets through drying and preheating zones on an oxidizing traveling grate and reduction in a ported rotary kiln. There is a kiln having a first end and a second end with the first end being substantially adjacent to the heating and oxidizing component for receipt of the pellets therefrom. The kiln is inclined downwardly and is rotated to advance the pellets through the kiln from the first end to the second end therefrom. The kiln includes an induration zone for indurating the pellets. The induration zone is adjacent to the first end and remote from the second end and extends for a substantial portion of the kiln from the first end. The kiln includes a reduction zone extending from the downstream end of the induration zone to the second end. A device is used to inject a reducing agent into the reduction zone of its kiln for making contact with the pellets advancing through the reduction zone. The kiln is heated to assist in a reduction of the pellets in the reduction zone. The pellets advancing through the induration zone are substantially free of contact with the reducing agent. The invention also includes the process for directly reducing the pellets of material.
