摘要: A solution for evaluating a vehicle, such as a railroad vehicle, is provided. Vibration data relating to the railroad vehicle can be acquired by vibration sensing devices located adjacent to a rail. Enhanced signal data can be generated from the vibration data acquired by the vibration sensing devices. The enhanced signal data can be evaluated for any anomalous features, such as vibration peaks. When multiple anomalous features are present, these features can be further evaluated to determine whether they indicate a presence of a defect on the railroad vehicle that is producing a periodic signal.

摘要: A solution for harvesting energy from motion resulting from operation of an object, such as a vehicle, is provided. The motion can comprise low-frequency motion. The solution can include at least one magnet, at least one coil, a magnet supporting structure, a coil supporting structure, and a design component which provides a restoring force to at least one of: the magnet supporting structure or the coil supporting structure so as to ensure relative motion between the magnet(s) and coil(s). The relative motion of the magnet(s) and coil(s) generate energy which can be harvested for wireless monitoring or other purposes.

摘要: The invention provides an image-based visibility measurement solution in which an image is used to calculate a visibility (visual range). In one embodiment, a lighting condition for the image is determined and the visibility calculation is adjusted based on the lighting condition. Further, the invention can obtain image data for a set of portions of the image and estimate a visual range based on each portion. The estimated visual ranges can be combined to calculate the visibility for the image. Still further, multiple metrics can be calculated, each of which is used to estimate a visual range. Subsequently, the visual ranges can be used to calculate the visibility for the image. Even further, configuration data that is based on a set of training images can be used to calculate the visibility for a new image. To this extent, the invention can incorporate the lighting condition, portions of the image having differing features, multiple metrics, and/or feedback through training images to accurately measure visibility based on an image.

摘要: The invention provides a handheld electronic gauge that is configured to obtain measurement data for an object, such as a wheel, rail, axle, or the like. The gauge includes one or more position sensors that automatically determine when the gauge is in a measurement position. The invention also provides a handheld computing device that can automatically determine when a gauge is in the measurement position and automatically obtain measurement data using the gauge. As a result, the invention provides a solution for measuring an object, such as a railway wheel, that is portable and capable of repeatedly providing various desired measurements, irrespective of the operator.

摘要: A solution for monitoring a railway vehicle is provided. A vehicle node and one or more sensor nodes are deployed on the railway vehicle. Each sensor node is configured to acquire data and communicate with the vehicle node only when certain conditions are met. The sensor node(s) and vehicle node can evaluate operating conditions to determine whether an alert should be sent to initiate action. In an illustrative application, the alert can correspond to excessive hunting by a wheelset of the rail vehicle which is posing a danger for derailment.

摘要: A solution for managing vehicles both individually and as a group of associated vehicles is provided. A vehicle node can be located on each vehicle in the group and obtain and process data from a plurality of sensors also located on the vehicle. The vehicle node can be configured to communicate, either directly or indirectly, with a group system assigned to the group using a wireless communications solution. The group system can acquire monitoring data for all of the group of associated vehicles, which can be used to manage the group of associated vehicles and/or one or more individual vehicles in the group. The group system can be located on a vehicle traveling as part of the group of associated vehicles or at a fixed location.
