Abstract: Methods for human characteristic and object characteristic identification at a point of sale (POS)) are disclosed herein. An example method includes capturing, a series of image frames of a product scanning region for each item passing through the product scanning region at the POS workstation. A first set of image frames of the series of image frames for each item may be captured using a first illumination setting configured for a first background brightness level, and a second set of image frames of the series of image frames for each item may be captured using a second illumination setting that is configured for a second background brightness level. The first set of image frames may be analyzed to identify an individual associated with the item, and the second set of image frames may be analyzed to identify the item.

Abstract: Methods for accurate object tracking are disclosed herein. An example the method includes receiving, from a first optical imaging assembly having a first field of view (FOV), a first image captured over the first FOV and based on a decode of an indicia associated with an object of interest, identifying the object of interest within the first image. The method further includes determining a location of the object of interest within the first image and mapping the location of the object of interest within the first image to a predicted location of the object of interest within a second image, the second image being received from a second optical imaging assembly having a second FOV and the second image being captured over the second FOV.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to wakeup systems for indicia readers. In an example embodiment, the present invention leverages data sensed through a horizontal window of a bioptic barcode reader to switch from a sleep mode to a read mode. In particular, the sensed data may be used exclusively or as a determinative factor for waking up the barcode reader.

Abstract: Example methods and apparatuses to indicate off-platter weigh conditions are disclosed herein. An example barcode reading and weighing apparatus includes a weigh platter; a scale; an off-platter detection assembly configured to detect an off-platter weigh condition; a processor in communication with the scale and the off-platter detection assembly; and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the barcode reading and weighing apparatus to, responsive to detecting the off platter condition: compose a weight-conveying message, the weight-conveying message including (i) a weight-conveying field having the weight encoded therein and (ii) overhead information, the overhead information being operative, when the weight-conveying message is received by a POS system, to cause the POS system to not accept the weight for the transaction, the overhead information also not indicating the off-platter weigh condition to the POS system; and send the weight-conveying message to the POS system.

Abstract: A method of auxiliary data capture control includes: storing, at a data capture device, (i) detection criteria corresponding to events having respective event identifiers; and (ii) a registration indicator associated with at least one of the event identifiers; controlling a primary data capture sensor to obtain primary captured data; in response to detecting, based on the primary captured data, that the detection criteria are satisfied for a detected one of the event identifiers, determining whether the registration indicator is associated with the detected event identifier; and when the registration indicator is associated with the detected event identifier, controlling an auxiliary data capture sensor to obtain auxiliary captured data.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for detecting an improper barcode using a neural network trained to identify an object from physical features appearing in images of object, and without resorting to using a barcode or other indicia to identify the object. The neural network is self-training, updating itself with selected images obtained at a Point-of-Sale. That is, the neural network is capable of training itself while performing improper barcode detection operations, such as spoofing detection.

Abstract: Techniques for preventing accidental triggers for off-platter detection systems are disclosed herein. An example system includes a weigh platter having a first surface; a scale configured to measure a weight of an object placed on the first surface; an off-platter detection assembly configured to detect an off-platter condition based on a portion of the object resting on a second surface off the weigh platter and/or some portion of the object extending beyond a perimeter of the weigh platter; a processor in communication with the scale and the off-platter detection assembly; and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to generate an alert responsive to at least: (i) the off-platter detection assembly detecting the off-platter condition and (ii) a measurement by the scale of a stable weight greater than a threshold weight, for a time period greater than a threshold time period.
