    Abstract: APPARATUS FOR MEASURING NOISE SPECUTRA, BOTH AM (AMPLITUDE MODULATION) AND FM (FREQUENCY MODULATION), OF RF SIGNALS OVER A PREDETERMINED FREQUENCY RANGE BY SWEEPING A VARIABLE FREQUENCY SQUARE WAVE OSCILLATOR BY MEANS OF AN ANALOG RAMP SIGNAL GENERATED BY A DIGITAL SWEEPING CIRCUIT WHICH PRODUCES A SEQUENCE OF SQUARE WAVE PULSES WHOSE PULSE WIDTH INCREMENTALLY INCREASES BY THE SAME AMOUNT OVER A PREDETERMINED TIME PERIOD. THE VARIABLE FREQUENCY OSCILLATOR IS DRIVEN AND AUTOMATIC FREQUENCY CONTROLLED FROM A DIGITAL CLOCK OSCILLATOR WHICH IS ALSO FED TO A MIXER. THE MIXER IS DIRECTLY COUPLED TO A FIRST MIXER WHICH HAS INPUTS COMPRISING THE NOISE SIGNAL INPUT AND THE VARIABLE FREQUENCY OSCILLATOR SIGNAL APPLIED THERETO. THE FIRST AND SECOND MIXER CONFIGURATION PROVIDES A FREQUENCY WINDOW THROUGH WHICH THE DESIRED NOISE WAVEFORM CAN BE DETECTED AND MEASURED. THE SYSTEM SWEEPS A PREDETERMINED FREQUENCY BAND AND WHEN A NOISE SIGNAL OF PREDETERMINED AMPLITUDE IS DETECTED, THE SWEEP CIRCUIT IS AUTOMATICALLY STOPPED, THEREBY LOCKING ONTO AN INPUT SIGNAL OF EXCESSIVE NOISE LEVEL.

    Abstract: A system for generating a digital signal comprising a sequence of pulses is disclosed with the first pulse of the sequence having a predetermined width which is sequentially increased by increments until the final pulse width is reached. When the maximum pulse width is reached, the sequence is automatically restarted. Each of the pulses comprising the digital signal is formed from a combination of a plurality of shorter pulses. These shorter pulses are combined in a special circuit to generate the digital signal which consists of a single pulse during each sequence. The system can also be easily modified to generate a digital signal comprising sequences of pulses which begin with a predetermined pulse width and decrease in equal increments until a final pulse width is reached. Provisions are also included for acceptance of a hold signal thereby permitting a sequence of constant width pulses to be generated.

    Abstract: Apparatus for transmitting digital data and for correcting errors which occur in the transmission of the data while maintaining high transmission efficiency is disclosed. Digital data words are sequentially transmitted with each of the data words containing a field code related to the sequence in which the data words are extracted from the data source. A receiver detects and retransmits each of the digital data words including the field codes. The retransmitted data words are detected by the transmitter and compared to the words as originally transmitted. If an error is detected, the transmission sequence is repeated beginning with the word found to contain an error. This unique arrangement of the field codes permits the receiver to determine which words have been verified as correct by the transmitter. Transmission is not interrupted. Supervisory signals are not exchanged between transmitter and receiver.
