Abstract: A ventilating inner cover, for a beehive wintering outdoors, is disclosed. The inner cover provides adequate, but not excessive ventilation while preventing a draft through the beehive. The inner cover embodies a ventilation channel that connects the top-center volume of the upper brood chamber with the outside atmosphere. The ventilation channel is simple to construct, being formed into the structure of the inner cover.

Abstract: A pollen trap for a beehive is disclosed. The trap includes an open frame which contains a pollen stripper for a conventional beehive. Mounted in the frame are two screens, having two meshes that are fine enough to dislodge granules of pollen from the bees as they crawl through. The pollen drops down through a bee-tight screen into a removable pollen basket. The invention provides an all-enveloping bee-tight tunnel or sheath for the pollen basket, the sides of the tunnel being spaced from the side walls of the frame to provide bee-access space. This construction permits the pollen basket area to occupy virtually all the area of the hive to promote good ventilation to dry neater and pollen.

Abstract: A honey drying ventilator for beehives is intended for installation on the top-most honey super of the beehive, and is a frame which fits above the top most super and has an opening in one of the front, back or side members thereof. Preferably, the opening faces in the same direction as the bottom bee entrance of the beehive. A closure element which covers the opening is closed below a predetermined temperature, and opens to an increasing amount above that predetermined temperature. The closure element has a bi-metallic element or strip which is secured at one end to the frame member near the opening. Screens may be placed behind or in front of the opening to preclude accidental ingress or egress of bees through it; and the element may be protected from above by an air impervious member so as to preclude the chance of propylis being placed above the closure element which might melt and drip onto the closure element at elevated temperatures.

Abstract: An air ventilator for beehives is provided which produces positive ventilation of a hive in an extremely simple and inexpensive manner. The ventilator is mounted on the hive so as to communicate with an outlet aperture which is conventionally provided in a hive to afford convective ventilation. The ventilator includes a first tubular portion or tube which extends perpendicular to the hive and a second tubular portion or tube which is formed integrally with and extends transverse to the first tube. The end sections of the second tube are of greater cross-sectional area than the portion of the second tube adjacent to the first tube, and comprise flared cones in an exemplary embodiment. Thus, when there is air movement in the direction of the second tubular portion, the stagnation pressure established within these end sections produces a suction effect in the portion of the second tube adjacent the first tube that draws air out of the hive. Moreover, the transverse air passages provided by the tubes prevent direct wind blasts from entering the hive through the outlet aperture.
