Abstract: A network architecture for an optical communication network, an optical communication network configured according to the network architecture and a method for interconnecting via a MD-WSS are provided. The network comprises at least a first ODN, an MD-WSS having a plurality of ports, and at least a first node. The first ODN is connected to one of the ports of the MD-WSS and the first node is connected to another one of the ports of the MD-WSS, wherein the ports of the MD-WSS 100 are paired such that the port connected to the first ODN is paired with the port connected to the first node such that signals originating from the first ODN are in a default case routed to the first node, and signals originating from the first node are in the default case routed to the first ODN.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed, including in one example a method for scheduling resources, associated with a plurality of components of a communication network, for providing a network service to a user equipment (UE). The method comprises receiving a service request for providing the network service, wherein the service request includes one or more service constraints. The method also comprises, for each of the plurality of network components, determining component resources that are needed to fulfill the service request according to the service constraints, sending, to a manager function associated with the particular component, a resource request that includes identification of the determined component resources and information related to the service constraints, and receiving, from the manager function, service information associated with the particular component. The method also includes, based on the service information and a cost function, determining a resource schedule for the plurality of network components that fulfils the service request.

Abstract: A method for dynamic access network selection by a user equipment based on application orchestration information in an edge cloud system. The method includes determining, by a network discovery function, application orchestration information describing placement of instances of one or more applications in the edge cloud system; generating, by the network discovery function, one or more access network policies for the user equipment based on the application orchestration information; and transmitting, by the network discovery function, the one or more access network policies to the user equipment such that, based on the one or more access network policies, the user equipment is to select one or more of an access network from a plurality of access networks available to the user equipment for the user equipment to connect to and which access network from the plurality of access networks to route particular data flows.
