    Abstract: A system and method for downlink feedback in communications between a station and an access point. In some embodiments, the method includes: receiving, from the access point, by the station, a null data packet announcement (NDPA) including a first number of spatial streams, and sending, by the station, to the access point, a Compressed Beamforming Report (CBR) including a second number of spatial streams, different from the first number of spatial streams; or sending, by the station, to the access point, an Operating Mode Indication (OMI) declaring a change in a station Modulation Coding Scheme (MCS) capability for a third number of spatial streams; or sending, by the station, to the access point, an Association Request including a declared Single-User (SU) MCS capability for a first bandwidth and a declared Multi-User (MU) MCS capability for the first bandwidth, the MU MCS capability being different from the SU MCS capability.

    Abstract: An apparatus and a method for allocating a multiple resource unit (RU) for a user in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system are provided. A transmission device of the WLAN system includes a transceiver that generates a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) including a preamble and a payload and transmitting the generated PPDU to at least one receiving device and a processor controlling the transceiver. The preamble includes a plurality of training fields and a plurality of signaling fields. Resource unit (RU) allocation information on the at least one receiving device is included in one of the plurality of signaling fields. The RU allocation information includes a first subfield indicating an arrangement of RUs in a frequency domain corresponding to the PPDU and a second subfield indicating a portion of the RUs to be combined to form a multiple RU.

In some embodiments, the method includes transmitting a first quantity of data, using a first number of spatial streams, and a first bandwidth, receiving N1 acknowledgment signals, N1 being a nonnegative integer; receiving N2 negative acknowledgment signals, N2 being a nonnegative integer; adjusting an estimated signal to interference and noise ratio for the first number of spatial streams and the first bandwidth, based on N1 and N2; estimating a first throughput for the first number of spatial streams and the first bandwidth; estimating a second throughput for a second number of spatial streams and a second bandwidth; determining whether the second throughput exceeds the first throughput; and in response to determining that the second throughput exceeds the first throughput, transmitting a second quantity of data, using the second number of spatial streams, and the second bandwidth.
