Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a controller trigger that includes an input surface configured to receive input based on movement of a finger of a user, the trigger having a range of motion along a trigger path. The apparatus further includes a mode selector configured to actuate movement of an intermediate switching component between a discrete-input mode and a variable-input mode. The intermediate switching component includes a moveable arm, and in the discrete input mode the moveable arm occupies at least a portion of the trigger path, thereby limiting the range of motion of the trigger; and in the variable input mode the moveable arm does not occupy the trigger path. The apparatus further includes a switch configured to receive input, in the discrete-input mode, based on a movement of the intermediate switching component, in response to a physical contact by the trigger.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes accessing a temperature map of a food item in a cooking apparatus, where the temperature map comprises a plurality of regions of the food item and associates a temperature with each region, and the cooking apparatus cooks according to an initial heating technique. The method includes determining, by a computing device, whether a temperature associated with at least one region of the food item violates a predetermined temperature constraint, and in response to a determination that the temperature associated with at least one region of the food item violates a predetermined temperature constraint, then determining an optimal heating technique and instructing the cooking apparatus to cook according to the optimal heating technique. In response to a determination that the temperature of each region does not violate a predetermined temperature constraint, the method includes determining that the initial heating technique should not be changed.

Abstract: A system and method for a hybrid multimode input device includes a multimode input device capable of a two-dimensional (2D) mode of operation and a three-dimensional (3D) mode of operation. The device includes a two-dimensional (2D) position sensor, a three-dimensional (3D) position sensor, and a processor. The processor is configured to enter a 3D input mode when the processor detects that the input device is in a first orientation, and enter a 2D input mode when the processor detects that the input device is in a second orientation.
