Abstract: An apparatus for processing medical image data, includes a controller configured to select an image group including pieces of original image data according to a digital imaging and communication in medicine (DICOM) standard. The controller is also configured to generate hierarchy information regarding a hierarchy structure of the image group by analyzing each piece of the original image data included in the image group, generate common data information by extracting, from each piece of the original image data, common data elements regarding respective classes that form the hierarchy structure based on the hierarchy information, generate common information regarding the image group based on the hierarchy information and the common data information, and perform data processing on the image group based on the common information. The apparatus also includes a memory configured to store the common information including the hierarchy information and the common data information.
