A Customer Replaceable Unit Monitoring (CRUM) chip, an image forming apparatus, and a method of authenticating are provided. The apparatus includes a main body that includes a main controller controlling operations of the apparatus, a consumable unit mounted on the main body to communicate with the main controller, and a CRUM chip that is provided in the consumable unit and stores information regarding the consumable unit. The main controller and the CRUM chip transmit and receive signals that include data and integrity detection data between each other. The integrity detection data is generated by using previous integrity detection data.

Provided herein is an image forming device including a main body; a consumable unit detachable from and attachable to the main body, and including a CRUM chip; a storage which stores a detection list including information on counterfeit CRUM chips and a conversion serial information list including a plurality of conversion serial information each of which is converted from serial information stored in the CRUM chip according to a plurality of different predetermined rules; and a controller to limit use of the consumable unit, when verifying the consumable unit based on at least one of the detection list and the conversion serial information list fails.

The image forming system includes a mobile device to activate a chat user interface to interface with an account of the image forming apparatus on the messenger application, and sending user messages to control a printing function of the image forming apparatus, a cloud server to receive the user messages from a messenger server, providing response messages of the account of the image forming apparatus in response to the user messages, and communicating with the mobile device in a conversational manner, thus controlling the printing of the image forming apparatus, and an image forming apparatus whose printing is controlled by the cloud server based on the user messages or providing monitoring information of a current status.

A CRUM chip mountable on a consumables unit of an image processing unit includes an interface unit configured to receive a first signal including first data and first integrity monitoring data for the first data from a main body of the image forming apparatus, a monitoring unit configured to separate the first integrity monitoring data from the first signal and monitor integrity of the first signal, a data processing unit configured to generate second data to be transmitted to the main body of the image processing unit, a generating unit configured to generate second integrity monitoring data using the second data and the first integrity monitoring data, and a control unit configured to control the interface unit to transmit a second signal including the second data and the second integrity monitoring data to the main body of the image forming apparatus. Therefore, stability of communication is improved.
