Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of methods for producing eye-catching overt security features exhibiting one or more indicia as anti-counterfeit means on security documents or security articles as well as decorative purposes. In particular, the present invention provides methods for producing security features that can be easily, directly and unambiguously authenticated by the human without any external device or tool, wherein said security features comprised a cured UV-Vis radiation cationically or hybrid curable coating composition and cured one or more indicia, said composition comprising an ink vehicle and pigments comprising a flake-shaped non-metallic or metallic substrate comprising one or more at least partial coating layers, an at least partial surface treatment layer made of one or more surface modifiers based on perfluoropolyethers.

Abstract: The invention relates to the field of the protection of security documents such as for example banknotes and identity documents against counterfeit and illegal reproduction. In particular, the present invention provides methods for producing optical effect layers (OELs) exhibiting one or more indicia (x30) on a substrate (x20), said method comprising a step of exposing a coating layer (x10) comprising non-spherical magnetic or magnetisable pigment particles to a magnetic field of a magnetic-field generating device so as to orient at least a part of the magnetic or magnetisable pigment particles; a step of applying a top coating composition on top of the coating layer (x10) and in the form of one or more indicia (x30), and a step of at least partially curing the coating layer (x10) and the one or more indicia (x30) with a curing unit (x50).

Abstract: The present invention relates to the technical field of security documents comprising a security feature, such as a windowed security thread, a security foil, a security patch, a hologram or an ink printed security feature, and a protective coating, and methods of manufacturing of said security documents. The security feature has a security feature thickness tf of at least about 5 μm (micrometers) and a security feature surface facing away from the substrate consisting of a first region adjacent to the edges of the security feature and a second region non-adjacent to the edges of the security feature. The protective coating covers the security feature surface facing away from the substrate, a first substrate surface adjacent to the edges of the security feature, and a second substrate surface, which is different from the substrate surface covered by the security feature and the first substrate surface. The protective coating covering the security feature surface facing away from the substrate and the first substrate surface is transparent, the protective coating covering the first region has a thickness tb1, the protective coating covering the second region has a thickness tb2, the protective coating covering the first substrate surface has a thickness tc, and the protective coating covering the second substrate surface has a thickness ta. The thickness tc is larger than the thickness tf, which is larger than the thickness ta; the thickness tb2 is larger than the thickness ta; and either the thickness tc is larger than the thickness tb1, which is larger than or equal to the thickness tb2; or the thickness tc is equal to the thickness tb1, which is larger than the thickness tb2. The variable protective coating thickness on the surface of the security document provides the inventive security document with an increased resistance against physical and chemical attacks from the environment, while maintaining the mechanical resistance properties required for such security documents.
