Abstract: A reading apparatus includes a transport unit that transports a document along a transport path, a multi feed detection unit that detects multi feed for a transport document that is the document being transported by the transport unit, a reading unit that reads the transported document, and a controller that controls the transport unit, wherein the controller acquires a multi feed length that is a length of a range in which multi feed occurs in the transported document according to a detection result of multi feed by the multi feed detection unit, causes the transport unit to stop transport of a document following the transport document by when the multi feed length is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value for the multi feed length, and causes the transport unit to perform transport of the following document when the multi feed length is less than the threshold value.

The controller, restarts the feeding operation a first time after the rear end of the succeeding document following the preceding document passes the predetermined position when a size of the preceding document indicates a first size, and restarts the feeding operation a second time after the rear end of the succeeding document passes the predetermined position where the second time is longer than the first time when the size indicates a second size larger than the first size.

Abstract: A reading apparatus includes a transport unit, a multi-feed detection unit, a reading unit, and a controller. When a multi-feed of the document is detected by the multi-feed detection unit, the controller multi-feeds causes the transport unit to discharge, downstream of the transport path, a multi-fed document for which the multi-feed is detected and then temporarily stops the transport, stores multi-fed page information indicating a page number of the multi-fed document, restarts the transport after the temporary stop, and after the reading unit reads a remaining document whose page succeeds a page of the multi-fed document, performs a re-reading process including the transporting and the reading of the multi-fed document, respectively, and inserts, based on the multi-fed page information, second read data acquired by the reading in the re-reading process into first read data acquired by the reading completed before the re-reading process.

Abstract: When a transport section transports he a media, a controller of an image reading apparatus determines the lengths of the media in the transport direction, based on detection results of a medium detector. When determining that a length of a medium is equal to or more than a threshold and then determining that a length of a subsequent medium is equal to or more than the threshold, the controller decreases an ejection speed of the subsequent medium to a second speed by the transport section. When determining that a length of a medium is equal to or more than the threshold and then determining that a length of a subsequent medium is less than the threshold, the controller decreases the ejection speed from the first speed to a third speed that is lower than the second speed by the transport section.
