Abstract: A hollow edge-filtration filter-unit comprising helically-wound slightly-rough ribbon material with shallow spaces between the convolutions is characterized by the facts that the ribbon material is porous and impregnated with an agent rendering it stable against the action of the fluid to be filtered, that the convolutions are adhered by the agent, and that the convolutions are disposed obliquely to the axis of the unit. The ribbon material may be crepe paper with the rugosities extending cross-wise. The obliquity is preferably about 45 degrees. A plurality of ribbons of the material may be wound together in parallel relation to one another. The stabilizing and adhering reagent may be a polymerizable phenolic resin, which is polymerized by passing the unit through an oven immediately after the winding process during manufacture (see Group XXVIII).
