Abstract: A method for supplying power to a battery determines a first thermal budget for a first charging regulator. The method also determines a second thermal budget for a second charging regulator. The first charging regulator and the second charging regulator are coupled to the battery. The method further includes dynamically increasing a first charging regulator power output and substantially simultaneously decreasing a second charging regulator power output based on the first thermal budget and the second thermal budget.

Some example methods for charging a device generally include providing power from a first device to a second device, the second device being configured for electrical connection with the first device via a cable. For example, a method may include transmitting a signal comprising one or more parameters associated with the first device to the second device, receiving a signal at the first device via a pin designated for a configuration channel, the signal indicating at least one of a requested charging voltage or a requested charging current based on the one or more parameters, and outputting power from the first device to the second device based on the signal.

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for limiting the power drawn by a battery charger based on monitoring of the input voltage and input current supplied to the battery charger from a power supply. In certain aspects, a method generally includes sensing an output voltage of the power supply, wherein the output voltage of the power supply is variable. The method further includes sensing an output current of the power supply. The method further includes providing the output voltage and output current to a battery charger. The method further includes generating a control signal indicative of a scaling of the output current based on a scaling factor, wherein the scaling factor is based on the output voltage. The method further includes providing the control signal to the battery charger to control the output current supplied by the power supply to the battery charger.

Abstract: A first portable or non-portable device enters an adaptive charging mode to deliver a programmable output voltage to a second (e.g., sink) device, independent of a connector between the devices. The adaptive charging mode enables a sink device to detect current and voltage capability of the portable or non-portable device. It is determined whether a first device coupled to the second device through a reconfigurable port is configured as a source device or sink device. A current limit of the source device is then detected. A programmable voltage from the source device is requested based on the detecting.
