Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may obtain a signal received over a wireless channel, the signal configuring one or more random access parameters for the wireless channel. The UE may obtain a downlink control signal over the wireless channel, wherein the downlink control signal comprises an indication of a trigger and a location of one or more random access occasions for the UE. The UE may output, based at least in part on the downlink control signal, a random access signal for transmission on the wireless channel during at least one of the one or more random access occasions and according to the one or more random access parameters and the location. The UE may establish a connection with a base station based at least in part on the random access signal.

A base station may identify a globally unique set of characteristics associated with a cell associated with the base station. The base station may generate a signature value unique to the cell based at least in part on a hash of the globally unique set of characteristics associated with the cell. The base station may transmit a control signal over a channel of a shared radio frequency spectrum band, the control signal comprising a physical cell identifier of the cell and the signature value.

Abstract: Some communication systems enable a user equipment (UE) to have different timelines depending on a category of the UE. One goal of the present method and apparatus is to improve channel utilization by reducing uplink transmission delays (or latency) for a UE in the unlicensed spectrum by not having to rely on a base station to have access to the wireless medium in order to assign a grant to the UE. The UE can transmit on an autonomous uplink (AUL) without having received an uplink grant. When a UE sends AUL traffic during a UE indicated timeline, the base station can indicate a reduced uplink physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH) processing timeline to the UE. The base station may further configure downlink feedback information (DFI) or downlink control information (DCI) monitoring opportunities for the UE. The UE may indicate the preferred AUL processing timeline.

Abstract: Scheduling around frame based equipment (FBE) idle periods reduces the flexibility of scheduling and partitioning. This leads to a latency caused by waiting for the next downlink scheduling opportunity and skipping over unused uplink scheduling slots. According to certain aspects, to reduce overhead caused by idle time and ensure full downlink scheduling, a base station (BS) alternates between idle periods and channel occupancy time every fixed frame period with one or more other synchronized BSs, between components carriers of the BS, or both. Thus, a BS can always schedule downlink on a carrier during an idle period scheduled for a different BS and/or a different carrier.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques for determining a distance (or range) between a first wireless entity and a second wireless entity. In an aspect, the first wireless entity transmits a first positioning reference signaling (PRS) signal to the second wireless entity at a first time, where the first PRS signal is received by the second wireless entity at a second time, and receives a second PRS signal from the second wireless entity at a third time, where the second PRS signal is transmitted by the second wireless entity at a fourth time. The first wireless entity enables the distance to be determined by a location computing entity, for example, by a location server, based on the first, second, third, and fourth times. The first wireless entity may be a mobile device or a base station and the second wireless entity may be the other of the mobile device or base station.

Abstract: Synchronous communications mode detection is disclosed for unlicensed spectrum communications. To detect synchronous mode communications, an observing node monitors on-off transitions of communication transmissions on a shared communication spectrum. The observing node detects the on-off transition spacing of the on-off transitions over a sliding window of a detection period duration. The node may determine the number of candidate synchronous on-off transition spacings of the detected on-off transition spacings that are equal to an integer multiple of a synchronization period. If the number of candidate synchronous on-off transition spacings exceeds a threshold value the observing node will declare detection of a synchronous operation mode of the shared communication spectrum.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for determining a time to stop monitoring a wireless channel for paging information. In some examples, a user equipment (UE) may identify a plurality of paging occasions associated with a wireless channel (e.g., of an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band) and monitor the wireless channel for paging information from a base station during a first paging occasion of the plurality of paging occasions. The UE may determine a channel occupancy status of the base station with respect to the wireless channel and may determine a time to stop monitoring the wireless channel for paging information. The UE may ignore a remainder of the plurality of paging occasions based on the determined time to stop monitoring the wireless channel.

Abstract: A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving timing information and a time-frequency resource configuration for an uplink subframe; selecting at least a first set of time-frequency resources of the uplink subframe on which to transmit; and transmitting a grantless transmission on at least the first set of time-frequency resources. The time-frequency resource configuration identifies a correspondence between at least one receive beam in a set of one or more receive beams and at least one set of time-frequency resources in one or more sets of time-frequency resources of the uplink subframe. The first set of time-frequency resources is selected based at least in part on a transmit beam of the UE, a correspondence of the transmit beam to a receive beam in the set of one or more receive beams, and a correspondence of the receive beam to the selected first set of time-frequency resources.

Abstract: Techniques for managing re-contention on a shared communication medium are disclosed. In order to facilitate re-contending for access to the communication medium, an access point may adjust one or more uplink transmission parameters associated with a triggering condition for invoking a contention timer. In addition or as an alternative, the access point may mute transmission on the communication medium during one or more symbol periods designated for transmission. In addition or as an alternative, the access point may configure a timing advance to create a re-contention gap.
