    Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus for selection of crop-input varieties. In one embodiment multiple varieties of seeds may be planted utilizing a row unit seed hopper having a plurality of compartments for receiving seed, each compartment having a seed passage through which seeds pass under gravity. A seed transfer actuator is disposed within or below the row unit seed hopper and is in communication with each of the seed passages and is configured to selectively open the seed passage of one of the plurality of compartments thereby permitting the seeds therein to pass into the seed pool of a seed meter while closing the seed passage of other of the plurality of compartments preventing the seeds from the other plurality of compartments passing into the seed pool of the seed meter.

    Abstract: A seed meter (100) includes a housing (110) and a cover (112). A seed disc (130) is rotatably disposed between the housing (110) and the cover (112). The housing (110) includes a seed pool area (114) and a seed exit chute (104) separated by a generally vertical brush (212) on a seed-side of the seed disc (130). A seed retaining structure (200) disposed on the seed-side of the seed disc (130) within the housing (110) prevents the seed within the seed pool area (114) from passing over the generally vertical brush (212) from the seed pool area (114) into the seed exit chute (104) when the seed meter (100) is tilted or rotated.

    Abstract: An agricultural implement includes a row unit frame (202) coupled to a draw bar (204) by a height-adjustable mount, a set of opening discs (212) coupled to the row unit frame such that the opening discs are vertically fixed relative to the row unit frame, and a biasing member (210) configured to adjust a height of the row unit frame to maintain the opening discs in soil at a selected elevation relative to the draw bar. A method of planting may include determining a height of a draw bar relative to a surface of soil, and adjusting a height of the row unit frame relative to the draw bar to apply a force to push a seed trench opening assembly into the soil and form a trench therein. The height of the row unit frame relative to the draw bar may be independent of the hardness of the soil.
