The invention provides a color photographic element comprising: a) a first light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing a tetrazole compound of Formula I: wherein when R1 is hydrogen, then R2 is an alkyl, aryl, alkoxy , aryloxy, alkylthio or arylthio, sulfoxyl, sulfonyl, sulfamoyl, —O—CO—, —O—SO2—, a heterocyclic group, a carbonyl group or an amino group or when R2 is a thiol (—SH) group, then R1 is an alkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group provided further that the ClogP for the compound of Formula I is at least 2.0 and less than 7.8; and b) a second light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, having a spectral sensitivity different from that of the first light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer, containing a compound of Formula II: COUP—(TIME)j—INH II wherein: 1) COUP is a coupler parent group capable of forming a dye upon reaction with an oxidized developer; 2) TIME is a timing group bonded to the coupling position of COUP and j is 0 or 1; and 3) INH is a mild silver development inhibitor fragment. The invention provides improved color reproduction.

Disclosed is a photographic element comprising a non-light sensitive layer containing elemental silver and a heterocyclic thiol compound having a Clog P of at least 2.0 but less than 12.0, provided that the ring system of the compound comprises a --N.dbd.C--S--H group or its tautomer and does not react with an oxidized developer. The invention provides improved minimum densities in imaging layers.

A photographic element is disclosed comprising:a) a first light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing a compound of Formula I:COUP.sub.1 --(L).sub.n --A I wherein1) COUP.sub.1 is a coupler parent group capable of forming a dye upon reaction with oxidized developer wherein --(L).sub.n --A is not attached to the coupling position;2) L is a divalent linking group bonding A to COUP.sub.1, and n is 0 or 1; and3) A is a fragment containing a group is identified by formulas IIIa. The invention provides a color photographic element comprising at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer or a non silver-containing light-insensitive layer, in which at least one of these layers contains a colorless heterocyclic compound having either one or two hetero atoms in the ring or ring system, being other than an imidazole compound, that undergoes less than 10% chemical or redox reaction directly with oxidized developer and which has a partition coefficient to enable the photographic speed of the element to be increased by at least 0.03 stop without increasing granularity, compared to the same element without the compound. The heterocyclic compounds increase speed without a concomitant increase in size of the light-sensitive silver halide grains.

Disclosed is color silver halide photographic element comprising a light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer or a non-silver containing light-insensitive layer, said light-sensitive or light-insensitive layer containing a polymer compound comprising a repeating benzotriazole subunit wherein a) the benzotriazole monomer corresponding to the benzotriazole subunit has a Calculated logP of at least 3.1 and less than 6.2; or b) the benzotriazole monomer corresponding to the benzotriazole subunit has a Calculated logP of less than 3.1 and the polymer additionally comprises a co-monomer with Calculated logP of 0.5 or greater, and the amount of the polymer compound in the element is sufficient to increase the photographic speed of the element compared to the same element without the polymer compound.

The invention provides a color photographic element comprising at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer or a non silver-containing light-insensitive layer, in which at least one of these layers contains a colorless imidazole compound of formula (I) that undergoes less than 10% chemical or redox reaction with oxidized developer and which enables the photographic speed of the element to be increased by at least 0.05 stop without increasing granularity, compared to the same element without the compound, wherein the compound of formula (I) has the structure: wherein X is H or a substituent; Z represents the atoms necessary to complete an unsubstituted or substituted imidazole ring, which may form part of a fused unsubstituted or substituted ring system containing no further ring heteroatoms; wherein there is present at least one —NH group either in the imidazole ring or directly attached to the imidazole ring as part of X; provided that (a) when Z represents the atoms necessary to complete an unsubstituted or substituted benzimidazole ring, an —NH group is directly attached to the imidazole ring as part of X, and X is located between the imidazole nitrogen atoms; (b) when the —NH group is located in the ring adjacent to the carbon atom bearing X, and X is located between the imidazole nitrogen atoms, the imidazole ring is not fused to a phenanthrene ring. The compounds of formula (I) increase speed without a concomitant increase in size of the light-sensitive silver halide grains.

Disclosed is a color photographic element comprising at least one light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer containing a compound that does not react with oxidized developer, has a Log Kow high enough to improve speed, compared to the same layer without the compound, and comprises (1) a thiadiazole, or (2) an oxadiazole, or (3) a 1,2,4 triazole bearing an amido substituent, and does not contain a hydroxyl or thiol group or their tautomeric equivalents on the azole ring.

Disclosed is a color photographic element comprising at least one light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer having associated therewith a coupler according to Formula I: COUP—(TIME)n—HSM (I) wherein: COUP is an organic fragment which reacts with oxidized developer to release—(TIME)n—HSM, TIME is an optional timing group or linking group which connects HSM to COUP at the site of reaction with oxidized developer, n=0,1 or 2, and HSM is a compound having a minimum of three heteroatoms and having a ClogP sufficient to increase the speed of said element compared to the same element without the coupler. The invention provides improved light sensitivity without significant adverse effect on granularity or ease of manufacture.
