摘要： A segment of a textile fabric is separated by rolling the fabric while at least substantially weakening at least one predetermined portion of the yarns of the fabric. In the roll, a plane of weakness generally perpendicular to the axis about which the fabric was rolled permits the segment of the roll to one side of the plane to be readily separable from the segment to the other side thereof. In a preferred arrangement, at least one separable segment is a disposable fringed edge formed during interweaving of strands of warp and filling yarns, so that the fringed edge is readily taken-up during formation of the fabric and yet is readily separated when no longer desired or necessary.

摘要： An apparatus for tending an elongate textile machine such as a spinning frame wherein a yarn piecing apparatus is traveled along first one side of the elongate textile machine and then the other side of the textile machine while a flow of air cleans the machine. Flows of air for blowing and vacuum cleaning pass through a housing which is traveled back and forth above and along the elongate textile machine, and through tubes depending from the housing into aisle space at one side of the machine. As the tending unit completes a traverse of one side of the machine, the housing approaches an end portion of the machine and is rotated about a substantially vertical axis while the tubes and yarn piecing apparatus pass around an end of the machine into a position in aisle space to the opposite side thereof. Continuing a movement of the housing and other components of the tend apparatus services both sides of the machine.

摘要： A traveling unit which has instrumentalities for reinstituting attenuated strand formation at drafting systems of a textile yarn forming machine and which traverses a textile yarn forming machine having a plurality of drafting systems is controlled by an arrangement which facilitates reduction in the number of ineffective attempts at reinstitution of strand formation. The control arrangement includes an active sonic detector for electrically signaling traversal of a drafting system location at which a stop member is in a retracted position and an attenuated strand detector responsive to electrostatic charges normally present at drafting system locations during attenuated strand formation. The control arrangement distinguishes among three possible circumstances and initiates operation of the instrumentalities for reinstituting strand formation only as required.
