Abstract: A compressive structural element including: an enclosure having a top, a bottom, and inner wall and an outer wall, a first cavity defined between the inner and outer walls and a second cavity defined by the inner wall; and a non-compressible material disposed in the first cavity; wherein the outer wall has at least a portion thereof inwardly shaped toward the first cavity and the inner wall has at least a portion outwardly shaped towards the first cavity such that a first compressive force acting on the top and/or bottom tending to compress the element by a first deflection causes an amplified second deflection, relative to the first deflection, of the inner and/or outer walls into the non-compressible material, thereby exerting a second compressive force against the non-compressible material, resulting in a resistance to the first deflection and the first compressive force tending to compress the element.

Abstract: A device including: a processor being configured to: instruct an image sensor to capture first image data of a patch applied to a user's skin unprotected against an ultraviolent spectrum of radiation, the patch having a reflection coefficient in the ultraviolent spectrum; measure a first reflectance from the patch based on the reflection coefficient; determine a second reflectance from the unprotected skin adjacent to the patch based on the measured first reflectance; instruct the image sensor to capture second image data of the user's skin after application of a sunscreen; determine a third reflectance from the skin adjacent to the applied patch for the skin having the applied sunscreen based on the measured first reflectance; and determine a time extending factor for the applied sunscreen based on the second and third reflectance.

Abstract: A dressing for covering a wound. The dressing including: a first component having a first shape with a first dimension; a second component releasably attached to a first surface of the first component to maintain the first component in a second shape different from the first shape, the second shape having a second dimension longer than the first dimension; and an adhesive disposed on a surface of the first component different from the first surface for attaching the first component to the wound such that the second component can be released from the first component to allow the first component to take the first shape to apply a pressure to portions of the skin surrounding the wound to close the wound. Wherein the first and second dimensions are a length in more than one direction.
