A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION ILLUSTRATES NOVEL APPARATUS FOR CARRYING OUT A METHOD FOR PRODUCING GLASS FIBERS INCLUDING FEEDING GLASS BATCH TO A FURNACE FOR MELTING INTO A POOL, FLOWING MOLTEN GLASS FROM THE POOL INTO A FEEDER MEANS AND ATTENUATING STREAMS FROM THE FEEDER INTO FIBERS. FUEL FLOW TO FURNACE BURNERS IS REGULATED IN RESPONSE TO DEVIATIONS OF ACTUAL FURNACE TEMPERATURES FROM A PRESELECTED SETPOINT TEMPERATURE. FUEL FLOW REQUIREMENT CHANGES ARE ANTICIPATED BY MONITORING THE RATE OF BATCH FEED TO THE FURNACE AND MODIFYING THE FUEL
FLOW SETPOINT OR THE FURNACE SETPOINT TEMPERATURE IN RESPONSE TO BATCH FEED RATE CHANGES. TO PROVIDE MORE CONTROL THE TEMPERATURE OF THE MOLTEN GLASS EXITING FROM THE POOL IS SENSED TO FURTHER MODIFY THE FUEL FLOW SETPOINT OR THE FURNACE SETPOINT TEMPERATURE IN ACCORDANCE WITH GLASS FLOW RATES THROUGH THE SYSTEM AS INDICATED BY TEMPERATURE CHANGES IN EXITING GLASS.
摘要:
Method and apparatus for producing glass fibers including a plurality of bushings for feeding streams of molten glass through orifices formed therein. A control loop is provided for each bushing for controlling the amount of electrical power supplied to the bushing and includes means for sensing the temperature of the bushing and power regulating means for the bushing. Data processing means is operative to receive a signal from a temperature sensing means of a control loop and to provide a corrective control signal to the power regulating means for that loop. Means selectively connect the data processing means to individual loops in a predetermined sequence to most effectively utilize the control time of the data processor.

An automatic batch weighing system for compounding a series of batches containing predetermined measured quantities of various constituents. The constituents for each batch are successively fed into a batch receiving hopper. The compounded constituents are thereafter mixed in a mixing hopper and delivered to a selected utilizing means. The feeding of each constituent is adjusted by estimating the weight of an unpredictable dribble and by compensating for any deviation in the most recent batch compounded for the selected utilizing means, to average out errors in the series of batches.
