Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for handling session requests for emergency services. Updated closed access group (CAG) configuration information can be provided to user equipment (UE) requesting an emergency session with a public land mobile network (PLMN), and the UE may update their CAG information or discontinue its session request. When the PLMN determines that the UE's session request to the PLMN was sent via a non-CAG cell, the PLMN may then determine if the session request is for emergency services, in which case the PLMN may decide to not clear or reject the session request, while if the PLMN determines that the session request via the non-CAG cell is for non-emergency services, then the PLMN may clear or reject the session request. When a session request is rejected by the PLMN, the UE may enter a deregistered state and conduct a search for a new PLMN.

Abstract: A user equipment operating in a connected mode includes a first layer, a second layer, and a third layer. The first layer generates a request to send a non-initial non-access stratum (NAS) message over a first connection that operates according to a first radio access technology (RAT). The second layer determines whether access to the first connection is barred for the non-initial NAS message. The first layer selects a connection to deliver the non-initial NAS message between the first connection and a second connection that operates according to a second RAT in response to access to the first connection being barred. In some cases, the non-initial NAS message is a mobile originated short message service (SMS) message or an uplink NAS transport message. In some cases, the first layer is an NAS layer and the second layer is a radio resource control layer.

Abstract: Methods, systems, apparatuses, and computer program products provide network function selection for user equipment via a gateway network node. In an implementation, a single-network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI) list is received from a user equipment (UE). Additionally, it is determined whether a network node does not support a non-access stratum node selection function for the UE. Based on a determination that the network node does not support the non-access stratum node selection function for the UE, an initial UE message configured with an information element for the S-NSSAI list is generated, and the initial UE message is caused to be transmitted to a gateway network node to select a core network function for the UE.
