摘要: An optical assembly a substrate having a first surface and a second surface that is opposite to and substantially parallel with the first surface. The first surface has a first curved profile and the second surface has a second curved profile. The optical assembly also includes a beam splitter on the first surface and a reflector on the second surface. The optical assembly is configured to transmit image light received at the first surface in an optical path that includes reflection at each of the reflector and the beam splitter before the image light is output from the second surface. The optical assembly is also configured to transmit ambient light received at the first surface such that the second light is output from the second surface without undergoing reflection at either the reflector or the beam splitter. A method of transmitting light through the optical assembly is also disclosed.

摘要: A Head Mounted Display (HMD) includes a pixel array having multiple pixels configured in a two-dimensional surface, each pixel providing multiple light beams forming an image provided to a user. The HMD also includes a first optical element configured to provide a central portion of a field of view for the image through an eyebox that limits a volume including a pupil of the user, and a second optical element configured to provide a peripheral portion of the field of view for the image through the eyebox, wherein the peripheral portion of the field of view comprises at least one steradian of a user's field of view at a resolution of at least fifteen arcminutes.

摘要: A scanning projector is disclosed, including a light engine for providing a light beam, a beam scanner for scanning the light beam about two axes, and a controller operably coupled to the light engine and the beam scanner and configured to cause the beam scanner to non-linearly scan the light beam about the first and second axes within the field of view while varying brightness of the light beam to provide the image. The nonlinear scanning is performed such that consecutive scans provide conterminous portions of the image. This enables one to increase a local rate of providing the image across at least 75% of an area of the field of view is greater than 1500 degrees per second. The high local rate results in a significant reduction of artifacts caused by motion of displayed object, the users eyes or head, etc.

摘要: An optical assembly includes a first reflector and a second reflector. The first reflector is positioned to receive first light having a first polarization and provide the first light toward a first direction, and receive second light having the first polarization and provide the second light toward a second direction. The second reflector is positioned to receive the second light from the first reflector and reflect the second light back toward the first reflector. The first reflector receives light having a second polarization, having been reflected by the second reflector, and provide the light toward the first direction so that a first image corresponding to the first light and a second image corresponding to the second light are projected on a common image plane where at least a portion of the second image is located between two portions of the first image.

The device also includes a lens array comprising multiple lenses linearly extended to overlap an edge portion of the planar waveguide, the lenses optically coupling the light beams into the planar waveguide, and one or more output couplers in the planar waveguide configured to direct the light beams into an eyebox, wherein the eyebox forms an area that includes a pupil of a viewer of the image.

摘要: A display assembly presented herein includes an inset display, a peripheral display, and a multiplexing optical assembly (MOA). The inset display has a first resolution and emits image light of a first polarization. The peripheral display has a second resolution and emits image light of a second polarization. The MOA receives the image light of the first polarization and the image light of the second polarization. The MOA then transforms the image light of the first polarization into a first portion of image light of a third polarization, and transforms the image light of the second polarization into a second portion of image light of the third polarization. The MOA directs the first portion of image light and the second portion of image light toward an eye-box. The display assembly can be implemented as a component of a head-mounted display of an artificial reality system.

When in the first position, the display outputs image light in a first direction substantially parallel to an optical axis of the optical assembly. When in the second position, the display is positioned away from the optical axis of the optical assembly. The display device also includes a partial reflector and a partial reflector-moving assembly connected to the partial reflector for moving the partial reflector between a third position and a fourth position. When the partial reflector is in the third position, the display is in the first position and the display is disposed between the optical assembly and the partial reflector. When the partial reflector is in the fourth position, the display is in the second position.

A second polarization selective reflector positioned in a second orientation non-parallel to the first orientation, and adjacent to the first polarization selective reflector so that the second polarization selective reflector: receives third light in a fourth direction; redirects a first portion, of the third light, having the first polarization to a fifth direction that is non-parallel to the fourth direction; and receives fourth light in a sixth direction and transmit a first portion, of the fourth light having the second polarization.
