Abstract: The invention relates to an insect trap and more particularly to an insect trap which has been designed to facilitate the destruction of micro-organisms thereby countering odours and mitigating against the spread of germs. The trap may comprise a. a housing; b. a cover; c. one or a plurality of insect attracting lights; and d. an insect catching device and further includes a radiation emitting device such as a UVC lamp which emits radiation and is capable of destroying air-borne pathogens. The insect attractant lights heat the air which is convected and an air flow may be facilitated by louvered openings in the cover and an opening in the top of the trap so that the air flow circulates across the UVC lamp where the micro-organisms are killed.

Abstract: An improved trap for catching insects that combines the use of attractant light and a sticky surface to trap the insects is provided. The trap includes a base, a dark colored insect trapping insert, a screen, a light source, and a cover housing. The insect trapping insert is secured to the base and has a sticky substance deposited on its exposed surfaces. The screen is arranged above the insect trapping insert in the insect trap in order to conceal at least a portion of the insect trapping insert. This serves to limit the extent which trapped insects are visible to individuals who pass by the insect trap. The light source, which typically comprises an ultraviolet light emitting fluorescent tube, is positioned above the screen and serves to attract insects. The base, insect trapping insert, screen and light source are covered with the cover housing. The cover housing is formed from a clear, translucent or opaque plastic and has a roughened inside surface which serves to increase the output of ultraviolet light from the insect trap.

Abstract: The invention relates to an insect trap which has been designed to facilitate simple and efficient servicing, maintenance and cleaning. The trap includes a back housing; a frame swing mounted to said housing; and a cover comprising openings allowing insects to enter the trap and the frame supports at least one light such that said frame and lights can be moved from a first position where they overlie the back housing, to a second position where they lie clear of the back housing such that an insect catching means which may be fitted over the back housing is readily accessible for replacement during servicing. Additionally, the trap is adapted for ease of servicing and jet cleaning by the provision of shields each of which sealably protect, from water ingress, the plurality of lights at the positions where they connect to electrical fittings.

Abstract: An insect trap with glue boards which are mounted inside a housing so as to be not readily visible when the trap is seen from various angles. The trap uses a lens with a roughened inside surface in combination with a reflector (preferably double parabolic) to enhance a UV light source mounted inside the trap. The housing of the trap has openings through which insects are able to enter an inside chamber. The walls of the chamber are lined with glue boards, which may be treated with chemical attractant so as to increase the tendency for insects to land on the adhesive area of the glue boards. The trap is designed to appear to be a simple wall sconce, and the angle at which the boards are mounted is such that the trap may be mounted at any orientation or any elevation without any significant likelihood that trapped insects will be seen by persons looking at the trap.
