Abstract: A system for detecting the presence of pests, the system comprising: at least one remote camera system, each of the at least one remote camera system comprising an image capture device coupled to a processor and a wireless transmitter, each of the at least one remote camera system having a pest detection surface and being configured to: capture one or more image of the pest detection surface; process the captured one or more image to recognise the potential presence of a target pest on the pest detection surface; and transmit data from the captured one or more image in response to recognising the potential presence of one or more target pests; and a server configured to: receive the transmitted data; process the transmitted data to verify the potential presence of the target pest on the pest detection surface; and provide an output indicating the verification.

Abstract: Apparatus and associated methods relate to selectively inducing ingress and/or egress of live food creatures (FCs) relative to a reservoir using a controllable light source based on innate behavior(s) of the FCs. In an illustrative example, a feeder for dispensing live food to a carnivore may have a (partially) opaque chamber configured to receive FCs. A controlled light source may, for example, be selectively operable to illuminate at least part of the chamber. A carnivore interface may, for example, be in communication with the chamber via at least one dispensing aperture and be configured to present a dispensed FC to the carnivore. Operation of the controlled light source in a dispensing mode may induces motion of the FCs in the chamber towards the carnivore interface to be presented as food to the carnivore. Various embodiments may advantageously induce self-dispensing and/or self-retention of insects as food.

Abstract: The insect trap for a pool skimmer basket comprises a cylindrical container and a basket cover plate. The insect trap for a pool skimmer basket may be an insert for a skimmer of a swimming pool that provides an exit path for insects caught in a skimmer basket. The basket cover plate may replace an original skimmer basket cover with the cylindrical container removably coupled to a bottom surface of the basket cover plate such that the cylindrical container hangs down into pool water. A plurality of apertures located in the cylindrical container and on the basket cover plate may allow the insects to crawl between an inner surface and an outer surface of the cylindrical container and through the basket cover plate. A plurality of luminescent rings coupled to the basket cover plate may guide the insects at night.

In some embodiments, an insect trap includes a light source, a removable enclosure with at least one opening, an adhesive surface at least partially within the enclosure, and optics to redirect light from the light source onto an adhesive trapping surface. The light source may include at least one light emitting diode (LED). The optics may be attached to the removable enclosure, and may be located at least partially within the enclosure. The optics may include optical enhancers such as a reflector, a lens and/or a diffuser. The insect trap may further include an insect attractant that emits sound or scent.

Abstract: A flying insect station includes a surface that is treated with a bait product, such as a pesticide. The surface of the station is an attractant to flying insects, such as large flies, due to contrasting colors and/or a pattern surface, which increases interaction by flies with the surface and also aids in the retention of the pesticide at the surface. The patterns can take many forms. In addition, the surface can include portions that are smooth at the molecular level and other portions that are textured in order to better hold and retain the pesticide. The station, in conjunction with the pesticide, allows a service specialist to use the product on a placement surface in more places indoors than they could by spraying during non-operational hours.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes an apparatus, system, and method for trapping and exterminating arthropods, particularly red mites. The apparatus includes an opaque housing and a heat strip configured to have separate temperature zones. The method includes warming the heat strip to lure the mites into the trap, heating outer heat strip segments to drive the mites toward the center of the trap, and then raising the entire heat strip to a temperature sufficient to exterminate the mites. The system includes placing one or more of the traps in animal hold structures, including nesting boxes in poultry houses.
