Abstract: A portable communication device operating in a covert mode including an electronic processor that detects a presence of a wireless audio accessory. The portable communication device receives and transmits audio data to the wireless audio accessory. The electronic processor monitors a signal quality of the wireless link and a continued presence of the wireless audio accessory and determines whether the portable communication device is operating in a covert operation mode. Responsive to determining that the portable communication device is operating in the covert operation mode and determining, via the monitoring, that the signal quality of the wireless link has fallen below a threshold or that the wireless audio accessory is no longer present: receiving, at the portable communication device, subsequent audio data, recording the subsequent audio data, and refraining from outputting the subsequent audio data via a speaker of the portable communication device.

Abstract: Methods and systems for adding a device to a sequential personal area network chain (100) having a hierarchy of transmission intervals. The method includes detecting a new device (120D) to be added in the sequential personal area network chain (100) and determining an expected transmission interval for the new device (120D). The method also includes determining a position at which to insert the new device (120D) within the sequential personal area network chain (100) based on the expected transmission interval of the new device (120D) and the hierarchy of transmission intervals across the two or more devices (120A, 120B, 120C) already in the sequential personal area network chain (100). The method further includes causing the new device (120D) to be inserted into the sequential personal area network chain (100) at the determined position.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for implementing a self-managed control channel. A mobile radio is a member of a talkgroup. The mobile radio has first and second receivers, and a preconfigured channel list that includes a control channel and multiple voice channels. The mobile radio monitors which voice channels are busy, and monitors the control channel using the first receiver. The mobile radio detects a session-start event. If that event is a session-start command, the mobile radio selects an idle voice channel and transmits, via the control channel, a session-start notification identifying the talkgroup and specifying the selected voice channel. If that event is receipt, via the control channel, of a session-start notification identifying the talkgroup and specifying a voice channel, the mobile radio determines whether the second receiver is tuned to that voice channel and, if not, tunes the second receiver to that voice channel.
