Abstract: Client devices may access internet service from a number of different sources such as mobile broadband networks, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc. Client devices generally connect to only one of the available internet services at a time. Client devices may not always be fully accessing the available internet service. A client device may benefit by using the internet service that is available to but not used by other client devices. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable client devices to coordinate with other client devices and coordinate with the internet service providing entities to pool the internet service from multiple internet service sources through some client devices and distribute to other client devices.

Abstract: A mobile Hotspot is a device that includes a modem for mobile broadband access and a Hotspot Access Point to distribute the internet to local client devices which may not have mobile broadband access. Client devices may start getting internet service from a mobile Hotspot and at some point may stop using the internet service. However, the mobile Hotspot device may continue to broadcast the signals even when none of the client devices are requiring internet service. Furthermore, the mobile Hotspot device may continue to perform required operations to maintain connectivity with the mobile network using the mobile broadband modem even when there is no need for it on the client device side. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable a mobile Hotspot to reduce power consumption when the there are no client devices connected to it or when the client device not requiring internet service.

Abstract: Internet, voice calls, and messaging services have become ubiquitous and the means by which the services are accessed varies widely. The number and types of devices that may use these services have also proliferated. To serve a number and variety of client devices, a mobile Hotspot may be used, which is a device that may include a modem for mobile broadband access and a short range wireless link to distribute the services to local devices which may have such connectivity. Power consumption of battery powered client devices is an important consideration. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable a client device to receive broadcast information about the mobile networks from a mobile Hotspot over a short range wireless link which may reduce power consumption of client devices.

Abstract: As the variety and number of wireless client devices have increased, often there may be multiple client devices in close proximity of each other. In addition to the connectivity to the wireless wide area network (WWAN), the client devices may have short range link to directly connect with each other. Two or more client devices in a given area may be camped on the same cell of the same WWAN, and the client devices may be decoding the paging information from the same cell. A method and apparatus are disclosed such that a client device may decode the paging information from the WWAN and relay the WWAN paging information to other client devices over the short range link. This may enable other client devices to avoid having to decode the paging information directly from the WWAN which may reduce their power consumption.

This may enable other client devices to avoid having to perform measurements directly on the WWAN cells which may reduce their power consumption.

Abstract: Mobile communication services that include voice calls, text messages, and internet are transitioning from circuit switched to packet switched networks such as internet. Although internet usage by mobile devices is on the rise, voice calls and text messages continue to be routinely and widely used. Most users at home or office may typically have phones that may be primarily based on wired connections. Although the eventual connection to the network may be wired, cordless phones may be used within the premises to connect with the base of the cordless phone which may connect to the wired network. A method and apparatus are disclosed that enable multi-user service with single broadband internet service in a base device and distribute the voice and text message service to the other users in the local premises. This may enable reduced cost and power consumption along with improved performance and user experience.

Abstract: In wireless communications systems, a client terminal performs cell search procedure to find a suitable cell and camp on it to receive service from the network. In 3GPP LTE wireless communication system, the initial cell search involves the decoding of the Physical Broadcast Channel (PBCH) which may take a long time to decode which affects the time it takes to camp on an appropriate cell. One of the reasons for this is that conventional methods perform PBCH decoding sequentially to find a suitable cell. A method and apparatus are disclosed that perform the PBCH decoding in parallel for multiple cells. This method enables the client terminal to camp on a cell and receive service faster than conventional methods.

Abstract: Proximity sensors are used in many user devices to detect a user's proximity to it. The proximity detection may be used to control the transmit power of a user device to ensure that the transmit power is in the allowed power range. There are other uses of proximity detection. A proximity sensor, like many other electronic devices, needs power supply for its normal operation. Many user devices are battery operated and therefore reducing power consumption of a user device is essential. A method and apparatus are disclosed that may enable reduced power consumption for a proximity sensor. The disclosed method may be applied to any user device that employs a proximity sensor.
