Abstract: Without increasing the size of a projection video display device that has a mirror that can be raised and lowered, this invention makes it easy to raise and lower said mirror. In order to do so, this projection video display device, which enlarges and projects an image from an image-displaying means, has a housing (10) and a raisable/lowerable mirror (30) wherein: a power supply, a light source, and a lens unit are accommodated inside the housing (10); said lens unit enlarges light from the light source after said light has been directed to the aforementioned image-displaying means; and the raisable/lowerable mirror (30) covers a projection-light opening (26) formed in the top surface of the housing (10), is provided so as to be able to rotate with respect to the housing (10), and has a convex mirror (110) on the inside surface thereof. With the raisable/lowerable mirror (30) covering the top surface of the housing (10), the top surface of the projection video display device forms a smoothly connected, smooth, convexly curved surface with no height difference between the edge of the raisable/lowerable mirror (30) and the front edge of the opening (26), and a half-bowl-shaped concavity (45) is formed on at least one side of the raisable/lowerable mirror (30) in the direction of the axis of rotation thereof.

Abstract: The head-up display apparatus includes: a vehicle information acquisition unit configured to acquire various kinds of vehicle information which can be detected by a vehicle; a controller configured to control display of a video image based on the vehicle information; a video image display configured to form the video image based on an instruction from the controller; a mirror configured to reflect the video image formed by the video image display to project onto the windshield; a mirror driver configured to change an angle of the mirror based on an instruction from the controller; and a display distance adjusting mechanism configured to adjust a display distance of the virtual image with respect to the driver, and the controller adjusts the angle of the mirror via the mirror driver based on the vehicle information such that the virtual image can be displayed with respect to the driver overlapped with the scenery.

The ocular optical system includes spherical lenses, a free-form curved surface lens, a reflection mirror, and a free-form curved surface mirror, and is configured by arranging, in a space on the side of the ocular optical system of a plane conjugate with the virtual image plane with respect to the ocular optical system, a first small lens system which achieves first focus position movement and on which separated light from the image formation unit is made to be incident, and a second small lens system which achieves second focus position movement and on which separated light from the image formation unit is made to be incident.
