    Abstract: A formulation delivery appliance can be used for treatment of the hair and scalp, such as an appliance used to color hair. The appliance may include a delivery device having a pump configured to draw formulation from a container and discharge the fluid through a manifold to a head that includes at least one nozzle and a plurality of standoff protrusions. The delivery device may further include a blocking member that isolated formulation in delivery device from ambient air when the blocking member is in a blocking position and allows the pump to discharge formulation from the nozzle when the blocking member is in an open position. The delivery device is mountable to a docking station with a storage tank containing cleaning fluid. The docking station provides cleaning fluid to the delivery device when the delivery device is mounted thereto.

A cosmetic deposition device includes an applicator component with a plurality of applicator nozzles and/or a movable applicator nozzle, a position sensor, and a reservoir for compositions for the cosmetic style. The device detects its position relative to the portion of skin and automatically corrects the deposition process with selective activation of one or more applicator nozzles of the plurality of applicator nozzles or selective movement of the movable applicator nozzle. These approaches enable automatic correction of application of the composition in real time.

A printer device includes a printer applicator, a position sensor, and a reservoir for compositions for the cosmetic style. A display of the printer device represents the portion of skin as a plurality of guide segments, and represents the printer applicator as a visual indicator relative to the plurality of guide segments based on the position sensor. The depiction of the visual indicator responds to changes in the position of the printer applicator relative to the portion of the skin to visually guide the individual to accurately apply the cosmetic style, and a feedback device alerts the individual if the application deviates from the portion of the skin. These approaches enable the individual to correct application of the composition in real time.

The formulation delivery appliance may further include an elongate engagement element having a channel extending therethrough and being configured to be at least partially received by the aperture of the container when the container is mounted to the engagement element. A vent aperture is formed in the engagement element and provides fluid communication between the channel and an area outside of the engagement element when the container is disengaged from the engagement element. The vent aperture is sealed, and the channel receives a flow of formulation from the container when the container is mounted to the engagement element.
