A steel which consists essentially of 0.25-0.65% of C, up to 2.50% of Si, up to 2.00% of Mn, 10.00-20.00% of Cr, 4.00-13.00% of Co, 1.00-3.00% of Al, up to 0.25% of N and the balance essentially Fe and ordinary impurities and satisfies the relation:Cr equivalent=-40C(%)+6Si (%)-2Mn(%)+Cr(%)-2Co(%)-30N(%)+12Al(%).ltoreq.13%provides a metal mold which need not be Cr-plated and is suitable of use in molding high-quality glass wares.

A carbide enriched high speed tool steel having good toughness, excellent wear resistance and excellent cutting endurance which by weight consists essentially of 0.62 - 3.95 % of carbon, totally 24 - 50 % of tungsten and twice amount of molybdenum, 3.0 - 5.0 % of chromium, 1.0 - 10.0 % of vanadium, 5 - 15 % of cobalt and the balance consisting essentially of iron and impurities and which is produced by powder metallurgical process.

A high speed tool steel having high toughness as well as excellent wear resistance and heat resistance characteristics, this steel contains, by weight, C 0.7 - 1.4%, Si 0.5% max., Mn 0.5% max., Cr 3 - 6%, W 1 - 3.2%, Mo 5.5 - 7.5%, V 1 - 3.5%, Co 15% max., N 0.02 - 0.1%, one or more of Ti, Nb, and Zr 0.02 - 0.1% in total and the balance being Fe and incidental impurities. The relationship between tungsten and molybdenum contents of the steel is expressed in the formulated range 12% .ltoreq. W + 2Mo .ltoreq. 16%.

A back material of a metal band saw high in fatigue strength which consists essentially of, by weight, 0.20 - 0.33% C, up to 1.5% Si, up to 1.5% Mn, 3.5 - 6.5% Cr, 0.05 - 0.40% V, 0.05 - 0.10% Al, 0.02 - 0.30% Nb, at least one of 1.0 - 3.0% Mo and up to 4.0% W and the balance Fe and impurities, the sum of (% Mo) + 1/2 (% W) being within the range of 1.0 - 3.0%.
