    Abstract: An apparatus and a method of detecting insect infestation condition are described. The apparatus can include: a microstrip patch antenna, configured to mount on a flattened surface of a test tree trunk and transmit a microwave signal; a measurement device, configured to measure a microwave reflection response of the test tree trunk in response to the microwave signal from the microstrip patch antenna; a storage medium, configured to store the measured microwave reflection response of the test tree trunk, one or more microwave reflection responses of one or more reference tree trunks, a program for comparing microwave reflection responses, and a program for identifying an insect infestation condition of the test tree trunk, and a processing circuitry, configured to read the stored microwave reflection responses, compare the measured microwave reflection response of the test tree trunk to the microwave reflection responses of one or more reference tree trunks, and identify the insect infestation condition of the test tree trunk.

    Abstract: A shared aperture multi-band antenna is described. The antenna includes a dielectric circuit board, a folded dipole microstrip antenna, and a lumped inductor. The folded dipole microstrip antenna is formed on a top side of the dielectric circuit board. The microstrip antenna includes two meander paths. The two meander paths enclose a shared aperture therebetween. The lumped inductor is inserted across a first gap near the third edge. A first pair of parallel metallic patches, a second pair of parallel metallic patches, and a third pair of parallel metallic patches are located on the bottom side. The antenna resonates in a dual band frequency range comprising a first resonance band in a range of 0.4 GHz to 0.6 GHz and a second resonance band in a range of 4.7 GHz to 5.8 GHz upon application of an input signal at both a first feed port and a second feed port.

    Abstract: A dual feed slot-based circularly polarized wideband ultra high frequency (UHF) antenna for a cubic shaped satellite (Cube-Sat) is described. The UHF antenna includes a circuit board, a metallic layer, a hexagonal meandered slot, a capacitor, a first feed horn, and a second feed horn. The circuit board has a front side and a back side separated by a dielectric material. The metallic layer covers the back side of the circuit board. The hexagonal meandered slot symmetrically includes six legs of equal length and six vertexes. The capacitor is switchably connected to the metallic layer. The first feed horn is connected by a first feed line to a first edge of the front side of the circuit board. The second feed horn is connected by a second feed line to a second edge of the front side of the circuit board.
