    Abstract: A numbering assembly is disclosed, which is incorporated into a conventional press of the offset type and may selectively be rendered inoperative if numbering is not desired or printing is stopped, or automatically deactuated during the operation of the offset press if no printed material is discharged to avoid movement or change of numbers on the register in the absence of printed material on which a number is to be printed. The numbering assembly according to the invention comprises an improved control assembly including a first electrical circuit comprising a detection device responsive to the presence and absence of gripped material, a first normally open switch and a solenoid connected in series. The control assembly also includes a second electrical circuit which comprises a main switch, a relay connected to the first circuit in parallel to the solenoid, and the said solenoid, all connected in series. When actuated, the solenoid operates mechanical means which brings the numbering machine in operative position so that the number to be impressed be stepped each time a sheet of printed material is passing through the numbering machine.

    Abstract: A printing press including a printing section delivering printed sheets onto a conveying section at a receiving station, the conveying section incorporating a horizontally movable conveyor provided with grippers for grasping printed sheets discharged from the receiving station and moving them away. A rotary shaft is disposed transversely of and above the conveyor, onto which is provided a tear-line tracer assembly which projects radially and lengthwise of the shaft. This assembly includes a tracer blade having an elongated serrated straight cutting edge extending parallel to the axis of rotation of the shaft and being adapted to produce tear-lines when applied over and across the printed sheets when the latter are moved by the conveyor. A rotary support roll is provided beneath the conveyor and over the top of which printed sheets bear as they are moved by the conveyor. The axes of rotation of the shaft and of the support roll lie in a common vertical plane and the cutting edge of the blade as the tear-line assembly is adjustable, when lying in the aforesaid vertical plane, with respect to the top of the support roll to ensure production of the tear-lines and the printed sheet material when the latter moves therebetween.

    Abstract: This invention relates to numbering assembly incorporated into a conventional press of the offset type, which may selectively be rendered inoperative if numbering is not desired or printing is stopped, and which is automatically deactuated during the operation of the offset press if no printed material is discharged to avoid movement or change of numbers on the register in the absence of printed material on which a number is to be printed.
