Abstract:
A user interface provides a uniform control scheme among different devices in a personal communications routing system. The system allows devices such as a personal computer, personal information communicator, pager, fax machine and base station to be operated with a standard twelve key telephone keypad controller for the purpose of accessing electronic messages such as e-mail, voice-mail, fax transmissions, etc. Handheld communicators are docked with the devices to provide wireless transmission between a base station and numerous devices in a multi-user environment. The base station receives electronic messages for the users in, e.g., an office and routes the messages to a device as the user instructs. The user is able to perform operations on the messages such as reading, responding, deleting, etc., by using the keypad. A visual indication of user designated message bins, along with icons to represent messages received, is used to special advantage by coordinating the bin layout with the arrangement of keys on the keypad. Another feature of the system is that rules can be predefined to route, screen or otherwise manipulate the messages. The rules are applied by the base station to each incoming message. Different users can have different rules such as automatic forwarding of messages, automatic paging upon receipt of a message and sorting of messages by sender's name or time of day.
Abstract:
There is provided a graphical user interface that is displayed within one screen of a display device. The graphical user interface includes a matrix-shaped display area that is partitioned along a first axis by types of content and partitioned along a second axis by units of time. Items of information on the content that is processed within a specified unit of time are displayed within the matrix-shaped display area, closed together along the second axis.
Abstract:
In a cooperative processing system for performing cooperative process between a portable terminal and a television terminal through a service server and a device control server, content and content information separately managed by a content server connected to the television terminal and the service server are searched based on a search condition extracted from the content or the content information reproduced and displayed by the portable terminal, and the search result of the content and the content information is seamlessly displayed on the television terminal. Consequently, the convenience of the user in content usage can be enhanced.
Abstract:
An instrument includes a display screen which includes a bitmap graphical user interface including an on-screen menu, and a control element which enables movement of the on-screen menu corresponding to movement of the control element, enables the user to manipulate and select graphic images for executing selected instrument functions. The instrument is adapted to enable manipulation of a plurality of graphic elements in an on-screen menu such that the user is able to form a graphic image on the display screen.
Abstract:
An integrated DSS/WebTV receiver is communicatively connected to an Internet service provider, a DSS service provider, and (optionally) a local broadcast station to provide a display of DSS programs, Internet web sites, and local broadcast channels in a seamless fashion. The DSS/WebTV receiver generates a graphical user interface (GUI), displayed on a television screen, for facilitating a user's navigation through the DSS, Internet, and local broadcast data. The GUI includes a TV Planner icon which, if selected by the user, causes the televison to display a monthly calender (or recording/reminder list) that indicates which programs are purchased and/or selected for recording by a VCR. A “Purchase” icon appears adjacent purchased programs and a “Record” icon appears adjacent programs to be recorded. If the user selects “Purchase” icon, the user is visually presented (e.g., via a pull-down screen) with the cost, date, and time of the program purchased or to be purchased. If the user selects “Record” icon, the user is visually presented (e.g., via a pull-down screen) with the title, date, and time of the program to be recorded. The TV Planner screen also includes a “Timer & Rec.” icon and a “Review Purchases” icon. If the user selects “Timer & Rec.” icon, the user is presented with a “Timer & Rec.” screen that lists the programs that the user selected to view or record. If the user selects “Review Purchases” icon, the user is presented with a “Review Purchases” screen that lists all the programs purchased (e.g., PPV programs) by the user in a given time period (e.g., one month). The user can modify selected data (e.g., delete or add programs ) when the user is in the “Timer &Rec” or “Review Purchases” screens. The user may also scroll from time period to time period (e.g., month to month) within TV Planner screen by selecting “forward” and “backward” arrow icons.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for displaying an electronic menu having components with differing levels of transparency are provided. A multiple channel broadcasting system generates an on-screen menu display for enabling a user to operate different functions of the system. The broadcasting system generates an electronic menu display that comprises a number of components, alphanumeric characters, and icons displayed on a background. The components, alphanumeric characters, and icons identify different functions of the system. The broadcast system applies different levels of transparency to the different components such that the number of opaque components is minimized. The broadcast system then superimposes the electronic menu display over a program broadcast on a screen. As the opaque components are minimized, the obstruction of the broadcast by the electronic menu display is minimized.
Abstract:
A display control apparatus includes a search unit for searching for a second content related to a first content in accordance with at least part of metadata attached to each of the first content and the second content, a generating unit for generating a three-dimensional display model, the three-dimensional display model including a first layer and a second layer, the first layer having one of a first image and a first character representing the first content arranged therewithin, and the second layer having one of a second image and a second character representing the second content arranged therewithin, and a display control unit for controlling displaying one of the first image and the first character and one of the second image and the second character using the three-dimensional display model.
Abstract:
An information processing device includes: a main unit to be held; a display unit provided on the main unit such that an information display screen is positioned on a front face thereof, to display information on the information display screen; a touch position detection unit to detect a touch position on the information display screen, and generate touch position detection data represented in terms of coordinates based on two axes intersecting at the detected touch position; and a control unit to display predetermined information on the information display screen, in the event of detecting that the touch position on the information display screen is being continually displaced from within a predetermined region on the information display screen in a predetermined first diagonal direction as to two directions following the two axes, based on the touch position detection data generated by the touch position detection unit.
Abstract:
A display control apparatus includes a search unit for searching for a second content linked to a first content and a display control unit for controlling display of a search history of content search performed in accordance with one of a first image and a first character, each indicating the first content, one of a second image and a second character, each indicating the second content and link information linking the first content to the second content.
