Abstract:
A deck container restraint system is disclosed which unitizes discrete containers against vertical movement in modules of three-wide, typically four-high stacks or columns to prevent overboard loss due to static and dynamic load conditions experienced at sea. A three-wide, one-high bottom tier of containers is secured against side to side and vertical movement by deck cones having locking devices. The overlying three-wide second tier is secured against side to side and vertical movement by cones having locking devices at the top of the first tier. Finally the three-wide, two-high top third and fourth tiers of containers are loaded, first by being tied vertically together by cones having locking devices and second, by being lifted in vertically tied pairs onto stacking fittings at the second-third tier interface. The stacking fittings restrain side to side movement at the second-third tier interface only. Upon completion of placement of the third and fourth tier, an equalizing spreader fits over the top of the three-wide, four-high container columns or stacks, restraining relative vertical and horizontal movement between the corners of adjacent containers. By providing for remote fastening of the equalizer to the top of the three-wide, four-high module, container restraint against dynamic loadings commonly experienced at sea can occur without conventional horizontal or vertical ties. Provision is made to expand the module to container columns on either side if additional equalizer spreaders are used.
Abstract:
Compositions for use in the treatment of complex waste liquids are disclosed. The complex waste liquids may include organics, organic polymers, and heavy metals. The composition is a solution comprising, in relative percentages, from about 2 moles to about 3 moles Me.sup.III, from about 1 mole to about 3 moles Me.sup.II, and from about 4 moles to about 5 moles monovalent or divalent anionic groups. In such a composition Me.sup.III is selected from the group consisting of Fe.sup.+3 and Al.sup.+3 ; whereas Me.sup.II is selected from the group consisting of Mg.sup.+2 and Ca.sup.+2. The anionic groups are generally selected from the group consisting of Cl.sup.-, NO.sub.3.sup.-, and SO.sub.4.sup.2-.
Abstract:
An APL environment includes the usual workspaces plus so-called packaged workspaces. The disclosed packaged workspaces are load modules created from saved workspaces. An active APL workspace can access a loaded copy of the packaged workspaces using external names of named objects in a packaged workspace rather than internal names of its own named objects. Program execution associated with the packaged workspaces is controlled through a copy of the packaged workspace name table stored in the active workspace accessing the read only packaged workspace. Access to packaged workspaces not only can be concatenated from other packaged workspaces, but also can be shared among a plurality of active workspaces.
Abstract:
A method for treating liquid wastes containing photoresist polymers and heavy metals is disclosed. The method includes adding to the liquid wastes an aqueous solution of water soluble FE.sup.+3 and Al.sup.+3 salts at a pH in the range of from about 0.1 to 1.0, and a water soluble salt of Mg.sup.+2 or Ca.sup.+2. The ratio of the amount of the Fe.sup.+3 and Al.sup.+3 to the amount of the Mg.sup.+2 or Ca.sup.+2 is in the range of from 2 to 3 moles to 1 to 3 moles. A precipitate containing the heavy metals and photoresist polymers is formed.
Abstract:
A shelving unit made of vertical end panels, horizontal shelves, cornice boards and toekicks secured together in a rigid and accurate assembly of parts. The shelf at the midpoint in the height of the end panels is connected to the end panels by shelf support locking pins which restrict the end panels from flexing in or out. Locking pin brackets have locking pins to pull the cornice and toekick tight with respect to the end panels, providing a strong and accurate connection between the parts.
Abstract:
A releasable fabric joining apparatus is disclosed, comprising a first piece of material which includes a planar body substrate and a planar loop substrate which has a first loop substrate secured coplanar with the planar body substrate. The planar loop substrate also includes a second loop substrate surface formed of woven fabric having plural loops of thread. A second piece of material forms another part of the apparatus, and has at least one surface with a grip face provided with plural, outwardly-extending filamentary hooks releasably received by the plural loops of thread. In a preferred embodiment, the first piece of material is woven fabric, and the second piece of material is loop-type Velcro. The present invention may be used in many different embodiments, such as in a non-slip shoelace, baby bib, and in other applications wherein a need exists to releasably secure to pieces of fabric while ensuring that the joined pieces have high resistance to shear stress.
Abstract:
A foldable work table having two pairs of legs, each pair being pivotal intermediate the ends thereof to move between a support position in a generally X-shape and a storage position where both legs of a pair are substantially parallel. The pairs of legs are longitudinally spaced apart. A first bracing member extends between each of one leg of a pair and a second bracing member extends between each of the other legs of a pair. A pair of elongated table members are hinged together along their length, each of the table members also being hinged to one of the bracing members, whereby the table members may pivot between a horizontal support position with the leg pairs in a support position and a storage position where the table members are in a generally vertical position and each leg pair is in a stowage position substantially parallel to each other. Hand holes are defined in each of the table members intermediate the ends thereof and positioned sufficiently close to the hinged edges of the table members so that both of the table portions may be grasped by one hand.
Abstract:
ACE-2 inhibiting compounds are disclosed. These compounds include compounds of formula (IV): wherein the variables are as described in the specification. Pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds are also discussed. The pharmaceutical compositions may contain an effective amount of a compound of the invention to treat ACE-2 associated disorders such as a blood pressure related disease or disorder, cell proliferation disorder, kidney disorder, kinetensin associated disorder, inflammation associated disorder, or an allergic disorder.
Abstract:
A method for executing external processes and for accessing external data from within an interactive language workspace. The workspace task referencing the external processes or data is synchronized and locked until the process is completed or the data referenced. The method steps provide establishing a message interface and utilize coercion of arguments in a dynamic environment. This permits, for instance, the invocation of a FORTRAN language process or from within an APL workspace and a return of information from said external processor without terminating the APL workspace.
Abstract:
A measuring tape apparatus includes a housing, and a tape disposed in the housing and having measuring indicia thereon. The tape has a first end inside of the housing, and a free end which is slidably removable from the housing. An L-shaped end flange is attached to the free end of the tape, for use in aligning the tape with a work piece. The end flange includes a connection section which is oriented substantially parallel to the tape, and an alignment section, substantially perpendicular to the connection section, for contacting an edge portion of a work piece. Rivets are provided to connect the end flange to the tape. The connection section also has a slot formed therein, extending laterally across the flange. The slot is adapted to receive a tip portion of a knife or marking implement therethrough, and may have a side edge which is substantially parallel to the alignment section.
