摘要: A driver circuit for driving a laser diode is described herein. In accordance with a first exemplary embodiment the driver circuit includes a first electronic switch connected to an output node that is configured to be operably connected to a laser diode. The electric connection between the first electronic switch and the output node has a first inductance. The driver circuit further includes a bypass circuit that is coupled to the output node and configured to take over, when activated, the current supplied to the output node via the first electronic switch, thus magnetizing the first inductance.

摘要: A device for regulating a voltage includes a first branch switch, a second branch switch, and a control module. The control module is configured to determine an instruction to change from a first state to a second state. In response to the instruction, the control module is configured to activate the second branch switch, drive a power module to increase a supply voltage to provide a supply power for activating a second set of LEDs, drive the first branch switch to dissipate a portion of the supply power to provide a target power for activating a first set of LEDs in response to determining that a current at the second branch switch does not exceed a current threshold, and deactivate the first branch switch in response to determining that the current at the second branch switch exceeds the current threshold.

摘要: An example method for preventing overcurrent in light-emitting diode (LED) chains comprises deactivating a current regulation control loop connected to a plurality of LED chains; regulating, via a voltage regulation control loop, a forward voltage of the plurality of LED chains; upon determining that a forward voltage of the plurality of LED chains is equal to a target operating voltage for a subset of the plurality of LED chains, bypassing at least one of the plurality of LED chains such that only the subset of the plurality of LED chains is connected to the current regulation control loop; and upon determining that an output current of the subset of the plurality of LED chains is equal to a target operating current for the subset of the plurality of LED chains: deactivating the voltage regulation control loop; and activating the current regulation control loop.

The method also includes determining, for each load chain in the plurality of load chains, a respective per-chain reference voltage in accordance with the global reference voltage, and comparing, for each load chain in the plurality of load chains, the respective per-chain reference voltage relative to a respective measured voltage across each load chain to determine a respective short-circuit condition.

摘要: A method and circuit are described in which a maximum voltage is determined from among a plurality of series load voltages, where each series load voltage of the plurality of series load voltages is a voltage defined by a corresponding series of N loads of a plurality of series of N loads, where N is an integer greater than one. Also, a minimum voltage may be determined from among the plurality of series load voltages. Next, the maximum voltage from among the plurality of series load voltages may be compared with the minimum voltage from among the plurality of series load voltages to make a determination as to whether the maximum voltage from among the plurality of series load voltages exceeds the minimum from among the plurality of series load voltages by a threshold voltage. Then, an indication can be output based on the results of the determination.

摘要: This disclosure includes systems, methods, and techniques for controlling delivery of power to one or more strings of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). For example, a circuit includes a power converter configured to generate an electrical current, a switching device, and a sensor. The sensor is configured to compare a magnitude of the electrical current to a threshold, and in response to the magnitude exceeding the threshold, cause the switching device to turn on in order to sink a portion of the electrical current to prevent the magnitude of the electrical current from exceeding the threshold. When the switching device is turned on, the electrical current is divided into an undesired electrical current that flows across the switching device and a desired electrical current that flows to the string of LEDs.

摘要: This disclosure describes techniques to control LED lighting systems using a circuit that includes communication, control and LED driver circuitry specific to a limited number of particular lighting functions. The circuit may communicate via a standard communication bus protocol and include feedback, protection and sensing circuitry to monitor the lighting functions and LED performance. The circuit may be small enough to be included as part of a lighting assembly, such as a vehicle headlight assembly. The included feedback and monitoring circuitry that may be physically close the driven LEDs may simplify the wiring when compared to other techniques. A configuration process for the circuit may further simplify the wiring connections, as well as reduce the development and manufacturing costs for lighting systems that may use the circuit. Limiting the lighting functions of each circuit may improve thermal management by distributing the thermal load.
