The backlight unit includes: a base substrate; a plurality of point light sources arranged in two or more lines on the base substrate; a diffusion plate disposed over the plurality of point light sources to diffuse and transmit incident light; and at least one barrier rib forming two or more division areas by being disposed between the base substrate and the diffusion plate to be upright with respect to the base substrate between the lines and having a wall surface reflecting light incident from the plurality of point light sources, at least a portion of an end portion of the barrier rib being inserted into the diffusion plate.

    摘要： A backlight system providing enhanced uniform brightness and a liquid crystal display (LCD) employing the same are provided. The backlight system includes: a light guide panel which forms a surface light source by guiding light; and a plurality of light emitting units arranged on at least one side of the light guide panel in the form of an array, wherein when the light emitting units in the array are divided into a first region, a second region and a third region and at least one of light emitting units is included in an edge of the first region and an edge of the third region, a quantity of current applied to the first region and the third region is controlled to be larger than a quantity of current applied to the second region in order to control the light guide panel to provide uniform brightness.

    摘要： A reflecting type liquid crystal display device having a perpendicularly aligned structure and shorter response time and a projector using the same are provided. The reflecting type liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate having a reflective electrode, a second substrate having a transparent electrode, first and second alignment layers provided on the first substrate and the second substrate to be opposed to and face each other, a spacer interposed between the first alignment layer and the second alignment layer to form a predetermined cell gap therebetween, and vertically aligned liquid crystals injected into the cell gap, the cell gap being not greater than 1.0 μm, the dielectric anisotropy of the liquid crystals being negative value, and the refractive index anisotropy of the liquid crystals being not less than 0.14. The projector includes a light source; a color separation unit, a reflecting type liquid crystal display device for selectively reflecting light beams of the respective colors separated by the color separation unit and sequentially incident thereto to form an image, an optical path changing unit disposed on an optical path between the light source and the reflecting type liquid crystal display device, for changing the optical path of the light incident from the light source to be directed toward a screen via the reflecting type liquid crystal display device, and a projection lens unit.
