Abstract: A flash erasure system for erasing the display on a dark trace cathode ray tube. The system includes a number of flash tubes which can be selected for operation in a predetermined sequence. This mode of operation allows a cooling and charging period for each tube before it is required to be used again.

Abstract: Two storage tubes, one used as a ''''permanent'''' data item store, the other as a display tube, share common power supplies and addressing arrangements. The two tubes are dark trace tubes and the beam current supply is arranged to produce writing and reading pulses of beam current which are delivered to the appropriate tube for (a) inserting new data items into the store tube and (b) for reading an item from the store tube and writing a resultant display on the display tube. The scanning of the store tube is cyclic and the data read from the store tube may produce a different display image.
