    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a user equipment that includes a communication interface configured to perform communication with one or more nearby UEs using one or more of a plurality of resources in a cellular communication network, and processing circuitry configured to operate the UE in a first mode and in a second mode. The first mode is a scheduled resource allocation mode, and the second mode is an autonomous resource selection mode or an idle mode. The processing circuitry is configured to switch from the first mode to the second mode based on a first condition relating to an out of coverage event of the UE being met and a second condition related to a further parameter being met.

    Abstract: A radio resource controller (RRC) is provided for use in a radio cell, in particular a base station, to preserve communication in an out-of-coverage (OOC) area. The RRC includes a processor configured to: determine an egress traffic of mobile communication devices and determine an ingress traffic of mobile communication devices, in particular vehicles, from the OOC area to the area covered by the radio cell. The processor is further configured to determine a demand of radio resources for services running on the mobile communication devices entering the OOC area, and to schedule radio resources for the admitted services based on an admission and scheduling metric with respect to the egress traffic, the ingress traffic, and the demand of radio resources.
