摘要: A device for canceling a land-groove offset component of a focusing error signal in an optical storage system includes first and second circuits, and an adder. The first circuit processes a radio (or wobble) frequency ripple signal to obtain a first processed signal that is multiplied by a first gain value (G1) so as to result in a first signal. The second circuit processes a tracking error signal to obtain a second processed signal that is multiplied by a second gain value (G2) so as to result in a second signal. The adder is coupled to the first and second circuits, and adds the first and second signals to produce a compensative land-groove offset component that is to be fed into a focusing device of the optical storage system so as to enable the focusing device to cancel out the land-groove offset component of the focusing error signal.

摘要: A device and method for calibrating linear velocity and track pitch for an optical disc is disclosed. The device comprises a frequency divider, a synchronous bit-clock generator, a counter and a linear velocity and track pitch calculator. The frequency divider receives a motor frequency generator (FG) pulse and generates a motor rotation period signal (FG/X). The synchronous bit-clock generator generates a high frequency bit-clock according to a reproduced signal read from disc. The bit counter counts the pulse of the bit-clock for each period of the motor rotation period signal to generate the data amount M. The linear velocity and track pitch calculator calculates the linear velocity by a linear velocity function with the information of the data amount M and the motor rotation period. Then, the linear velocity and track pitch calculator calculates the track pitch by a pitch function with the information of the data amount, radius and linear velocity at different tracks.

摘要: This invention provides a laser power control system to control the power of the emitted laser from an optical pick-up head. The system comprises a temperature sensor and a calculating unit. The temperature sensor is used to detect the temperature of the optical pick-up head and to generate a temperature signal accordingly. The calculating unit, storing a control relation of the optical pick-up head, is used to receive the temperature signal. According to the control relation, the calculating unit calculates and outputs a power control signal under the temperature signal and the setting power. The power control signal, converted from digital into analog by a digital to analog converter, is transmitted to the optical pick-up head, so as to control the optical pick-up head to emit the laser according to the setting power.

摘要: A gain calibration device and method for differential push-pull (DPP) tracking error signals in an optical storage system is provided. The gain calibration method processes the synthesized gain (SPPG) of the sub beam in the DPP tracking error signal components with respect to the main beam. The calibration theorem resides in controlling the objective lens of the pick-up head to form a lens-shift or controlling the tilt of the objective lens relative to the optical disc to make the synthesized DPP tracking error signals generate a correspondingly signal variation owing to the optical path deviation. The synthesized gain is calibrated to make the signal variation a minimum value, and the calibrated synthesized gain is the optimum value. In the method and device of the invention, the optimum synthesized gain of the sub beam is precisely computed without the assumptions of equal intensity of the two sub beams and symmetrical positions of the two sub beams with respect to the main beam, and without knowing the ratio of the pitch between the two sub beams to the track pitch.

摘要: In a method and apparatus for controlling the power of a laser beam in an optical recording system that includes a laser light source, an optical detector detects a reflected write pulse that is a reflection of an incident recording light signal from the optical recording medium, and a signal generating device generates a mark formation effectiveness (MFE) signal according to the reflected write pulse. A laser power compensation circuit includes a filter for filtering the MFE signal so as to result in a first component, and a combiner for combining the first component and the MFE signal so as to result in a second component. The laser power compensation circuit controls laser beam power of the laser light source according to the first and second components for optimum information recording.
