    摘要: A method for forming an injection molded component from a host polymer (18) uses a very small quantity of an additive (32) that is efficiently driven to the surface of the component during the injection molding process. The additive exists in the host polymer at a very low concentration in the bulk, much lower than would be necessary to achieve the modification in a homogeneous blend. The additive is an insoluble liquid in the host polymer under the temperature and pressure conditions of injection molding. The additive is driven to the flow front surface (22) during injection molding and then translated to the surface (24) of the component by fountain flow and is distributed on the surface in a thin layer, producing the desired surface modification, without altering the properties of the bulk polymer, and eliminating post processing steps from the manufacturing process.

    摘要: Free-radical curable amino vinyl ester resin binder compositions for fiber reinforced composite materials with improved interlaminar shear strength and accelerated cure rate. The composition comprises about 80 to about 20 weight percent of amino vinyl prepolymer and about 20 to about 80 weight percent of a crosslinkable diluent, wherein the prepolymer consists essentially of the reaction product of epoxy-amino alcohol adduct and unsaturated monomer having a terminal vinyl group and a hydroxy reactive functionality capable of reacting with the hydroxyl groups of the adduct. The polyepoxide and amino alcohol, preferably a diethanol amine, are reacted in a ratio of about 1:1-1.2 equivalents of epoxide to amine groups, so as to react essentially all of the epoxide groups. Subsequently, between about 0.3-1.0 of the hydroxyl groups of the adduct are reacted with the vinyl monomer.

    摘要: A fast curing, high solids coating composition that is adapted for use as an automotive topcoat and which upon curing forms a hard, glossy, durable coating exhibiting excellent resistance to solvent and water. The coating composition contains greater than about 60 percent by weight of nonvolatile solids and, exclusive of pigments, solvents and other nonreactive components, consists essentially of:(A) a bifunctional copolymer bearing hydroxy functionality and pendant epoxy functionality, having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.n) of between about 1500 and about 10,000 and a glass transition temperature (Tg) of between about -25.degree. and about 70.degree. C.;(B) at least one organophosphate ester selected from certain mono- and diesters of phosphoric acid;(C) an amine-aldehyde resin crosslinking agent; and(D) optionally a hydroxy functional additive.The organophosphate ester is included in the composition in an amount sufficient to provide between about 0.67 and about 1.4 equivalents of acid functionality for each equivalent of pendant epoxy functionality of the copolymer of (A), and the amino crosslinking agent is included in the composition in an amount sufficient to provide at least about 0.67 equivalents of nitrogen crosslinking functionality for each equivalent of hydroxy functionality included in the composition (i) as a hydroxyl group on said optional hydroxy functional additive, (ii) as a hydroxyl group on said bifunctional copolymer or (iii) as a result of esterification of the pendent epoxy functionality of said bifunctional copolymer during curing of the composition.

Preferred articles bearing such a coating, which may comprise large amounts of pigment, are preferably cured by exposure to electron beam radiation.
