    Abstract: A method tests the configuration of an aggregated DERs system using distributed asset managers in a decentralized hardware-in-the-loop (“HIL”) scheme. The managers contain the model of the asset they are meant to control. The method programs an asset manager with a model of a DERs asset. A plurality of asset managers are connected to a central controller. The plurality of asset managers are also connected to a simplified hardware-in-the-loop platform. The simplified HIL platform is configured to solve a network model, a load model, a non-controllable asset model, and a grid model. The method tests the DERs system control structure by using: (a) the simplified HIL platform to solve the network model, the load model, the non-controllable asset model, and the grid model, and (b) the asset manager to solve the model of the DERs asset, without any simulation between the central controller and the distributed asset managers.

    Abstract: An asset manager is configured to control distribution of power within an aggregated distributed energy resources system. The asset manager is configured to solve a given asset model that models a real asset. The asset controller is configured to optimize a setpoint of the asset by determining a first trajectory over the course of a first prediction horizon and a second trajectory over the course of a second prediction horizon that is temporally shorter than the first prediction horizon. The trajectories are determined by minimizing a cost function associated with the DER model or a DERs system model. The first prediction horizon has a first temporal length and a first plurality of set points. The second prediction horizon has a second temporal length and a second plurality of set points. The asset controller is configured to constrain the second trajectory based on the first plurality of set points.

    Abstract: A method optimizes an aggregated distributed energy resources system. The method receives a power objective for a DERs system that includes a plurality of assets. Each of the assets has an asset manager. A physical parameter related to the power objective is measured at a point of common coupling for the assets. The method selects one or more asset managers as an authority. The authority is configured to calculate a virtual price as a function of the measured physical parameter and the power objective. The virtual price is forwarded to one or more of the asset managers.

    Abstract: A method for operating a microgrid using a distributed energy resource (DER) controller determines an output power value of a DER. The method also receives a remote power correction value from a second DER controller. The method further determines a local output power reference value as a function of the output power value and the remote power correction value. The method further determines a frequency set point as a function of the local output power reference value and a droop coefficient. The method further adjusts an output frequency of the DER as a function of the frequency set point.
