A process for nonpermanently dyeing human hair comprises applying to the hair a dye composition prepared immediately before application of the same to the hair, the composition comprising an aqueous solution of a solid anhydrous dye selected from the group consisting of indamine, indoaniline and indophenol hair dyes, present in the composition in amounts of 0.0005-2 percent by weight thereof.
Abstract:
A dye for coloring hair is one of an indamine, indoaniline, indophenol, diaminobenzoquinone or mixtures thereof which is lyophilized from a solution of the dye in an organic solvent or in an aqueous solution of the organic solvent by freezing the solution at a temperature of -200.degree. to -60.degree.C, and then subliming the frozen solution under a vacuum at a temperature lower than the melting point of the frozen solution. The thus lyophilized dye can be desorped to eliminate, if necessary, residual moisture. The lyophilized dye can be solubilized in an aqueous solution to produce a hair dye composition and can be present therein in amounts of about 0.0005-4 percent by weight of said composition.

A process for producing a dye in powder form involves reacting an oxidation agent with an oxidation base in an aqueous alkaline preferably ammoniacal medium having a pH ranging from 8 to 13 at a temperature and during a period of time allowing at least a partial oxidation, preferably between 15.degree.-30.degree.C for a period of about 5 minutes to 30 hours and lyophilizing or spray-drying the resulting reaction product. The resulting dye can be used to color keratinic fibers, especially human hair.

A hair coloring and hair-setting lotion composition comprises in combination an aqueous solution of a lower alkanol, a cosmetic film-forming resin, a direct dye, a solar filter and a reducing agent selected from the group consisting of butyl hydroxy anisole, dodecyl gallate, propyl gallate and octyl gallate. The reducing agent is generally present in amounts of about 0.02 - 2% by weight of the composition.
