    Abstract: A turbomachine includes a housing and a rotating group that is supported for rotation about an axis within the housing. The rotating group includes a rotor shaft, a wheel, and a fastener that clamps the wheel to the rotor shaft. The fastener is unitary and includes a head and a shank. The shank includes a piloting feature on an arcuate surface that faces radially outward with respect to the axis. The shank is received in the wheel and is attached to the rotor shaft with the piloting feature being piloted to an arcuate inner radial surface of the wheel. The head abuts an axial surface of the wheel for axially clamping the wheel to the rotor shaft.

    Abstract: A journal foil bearing system includes a journal member with a bore and an internal groove. The system includes a shaft received within the bore and supported for rotation relative to the journal member about an axis. The groove extends substantially along the axis. The system also includes at least one biasing foil and a top foil member with at least one arch-bound top foil. The top foil member has a top foil first end and a top foil second end. Additionally, the system includes a foil support insert member that is received within the groove. The foil support insert member includes a spacer member that is disposed between the top foil first and second ends. The spacer member maintains the top foil first and second ends separated, at least, at a distance.

The internal groove has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion extends further in the depth direction than the second portion and includes a seat surface of the internal groove. The retainer arrangement additionally includes a first top foil end and a second top foil end of the top foil member. The first top foil end is configured to abut the second top foil end to arch-bind the at least one top foil within the bearing system. The first top foil end is received in the first portion of the internal groove and is configured to seat against the seat surface to limit rotation of the first top foil end about the axis. The second top foil end is received in the second portion of the internal groove.

    Abstract: A journal foil bearing system includes a journal housing member including a journal housing wall that is disposed about a bore that extends along an axis. The journal housing wall has an inner diameter surface that faces the bore. The journal housing wall locally along the inner diameter surface has a first relief region. A shaft is disposed within the bore and is supported for rotation. A biasing foil member includes at least one biasing foil received within the bore and disposed radially between the journal housing member and the shaft. A top foil member includes at least one top foil disposed within the bore radially between the at least one biasing foil and the shaft. The biasing foil is disposed circumferentially along the inner diameter surface and the first relief region.
