Abstract: A replaceable seal for a rotor in a rotary fluid machine has a unitary body with integrally formed longitudinal and radial seal portions secured by a friction fit in grooves in the rotor. The longitudinal seal portion includes an outwardly biased seal lip, and an elongated body portion fitting within the groove in the rotor. The elongated body portion has a pair of anchor elements connected by a flat arm element. The radial seal portion has an outwardly biased seal lip, and a retainer post securing the seal in a cavity in the rotor.

Abstract: A liquid additive injection pump has a hydraulic motor comprising a differential piston assembly reciprocable in a housing under the urging of a primary liquid into which an additive is to be injected. The piston assembly includes valves to effect the transfer of a primary fluid charge from the pump motor to a discharge passage and to effect reciprocation of the piston assembly. The motor piston is connected to a central axially disposed piston rod which extends into an additive injection pump cylinder. In one embodiment a floating additive injection pump piston has a stack of displacement control washers engaged therewith and disposed on the piston rod. In another embodiment the pump piston passes through a seal member between a pump chamber and a bypass chamber and an elongated spiral groove formed on the periphery of the pump piston determines the effective displacement of the pump. A spring biased toggle type linkage snaps the motor valves into open and closed positions to provide positive movement of the valve members. Liquid additive is injected into the primary fluid stream at the outlet passage of the apparatus and downstream of the motor mechanism. An external adjustment mechanism is provided for variably presetting the effective displacement of the piston.

Abstract: The present invention discloses operation of a system for injecting a predetermined amount of a secondary fluid into a primary fluid stream. The system uses a liquid additive injection pump driven by a fluid powered motor that is driven by the primary fluid stream and can be selectively suspended by an automated switch mechanism. The automated switch mechanism comprises an actuator in communication with an actuating shaft and a fluid source. When the actuator is pressurized, an actuating shaft is displaced relative to a housing which either engages or suspends the fluid-powered motor.

Abstract: An inline backwash, flushing filter assembly comprising a header assembly, a rotatable valve assembly, and a filter element assembly disposed within a filter housing assembly. In operation, the controller moves the turn knob of the rotatable valve assembly a one-quarter turn which results in the reversal of fluid flow through the assembly to periodically back flush the filter utilizing fluid from the system inlet. Debris removed from the filter element during the backwash process are immediately discharged from the system through a drain port. Simultaneously, the hydraulic shearing mechanism of the backwash process dislodges and drains debris which may have accumulated on the screen and at the bottom of the lower filter assembly during normal filter operations. The controller then returns the filter assembly to filtration operation by a reverse one-quarter turn of the turn knob of the rotatable valve assembly.

Abstract: A magnetically actuated fluid motor has a shiftable member having valve members for alternately closing one and opening the other of large and smaller faces of a stepped piston reciprocating in a housing. The shiftable member carries a magnet and is shiftable to collocate the magnet with one of spaced apart magnet attractors. A magnetic holding force between the magnet and attractors exceeds a simultaneous resilient counterforce supplied by spring members operating on the shiftable member. When the magnetic holding force is weakened by application of a separating force to separate the magnet from an attractor, stored energy in the compressed springs is released to shift the shiftable member. Separating force is applied through stops which arrest the shiftable member while the piston continues to move, without immediately opening the closed face of the stepped piston. Once the magnet is separated from the nearest magnetic attractor by a pre-shift amount, so that the resilient shifting force exceeds the weakened magnetic holding force, the shiftable member shifts, closing the open face and opening the closed face of the piston to reverse the piston stroke. The magnet carried by the shiftable member operates in a chamber-like area having fluid ports which dampen the shifting action.
